I could smoke a pork butt for the meat if we wanted to do pulled pork sandwiches.

Thanks for the directions. Have to call it a rally, where more than one Airstream meets, it is a rally? At least sounds good. Potlucks are good for us. We might be up
Thursday, going to depend on our work schedules. We can't wait!!!

Looking forward to seeing you two, again!

Our grand babies are 9, 7 and 5, two boys and a girl, and there are at least 3 other children coming from what Steve tells me. Ours have travelled and camped with us for years, but this is the first time without electricity, running water, etc. Grandpa Doug will introduce the boys to pit toilets, which will fascinate and repulse them a bit, I believe. Ha!

These are sweet, well-behaved and imaginative kids, who will have a blast in this wooded campground where they can rip around with the dogs, play with their light sabers, play hide and seek, etc. We persuaded their parents to let us take them out of school a day, and are looking forward to showing them a different kind of camping. If anyone has grand kids, nieces/nephews they want to snag and bring along, this would be a good weekend to do so.

Going to be fun, and we are looking forward to it.

Since I will likely arrive on Thu and may be the first one there is there any particular area in the campground where everyone is going? Have not made any reservations and hopefully won't be needed.

Hi Al!! Didn't realize you were coming. Will be good to see you.

There is an electric loop, where you come into the park, and the non-electric loop across a little bridge. There is a camp host there, or has been, who can point the way. If not, you'll find it easily. Steve and I always set up at the far end from the bridge. There is a nice fire pit there. Sites are all around that loop.

You won't need reservations, there is plenty of room . We will be there mid afternoon. Kiddies are doing a half day of school that day.

Sorry Al. I know this got your hopes up, but only the host has electric. The rest of the sites in the entire campground are non-electric so you'll be boondocking with the rest of us.

The price per night is $8 on Friday through Sunday but if I'm not mistaken, seniors camp for $4 from Monday through Thursday.

Oops, I thought that whole other area had electric.

Steve, we do know this park and loop haven't been closed for any reason, right?

Well, I looked it up, and all seems to be well. No reservations taken, but for the group site and pavilion.

We pulled into a favorite park in western Illinois last pm, to find the road under construction with a "road closed" sign to the side. Taking a liberal interpretation of the placement of the sign, we squeezed through and into a site.

We are, too.

Are watching the weather, hoping for reasonable temps and no rain.

Right now it's looking like temperatures will be in the low 60s during the day with 40s overnight. That's a bit on the cool side but should be very pleasant campfire weather.

Now is a good time to check the water level in your batteries and top off with distilled water, then get them charging so they're topped off for this weekend.

I picked up a pork butt this weekend to smoke for the rally, so for Friday night's potluck we'll have pulled pork sandwiches and whatever sidedishes others would like to bring.

For Saturday night's potluck I'm planning to bake a pineapple upsidedown cake in the Dutch oven.

There will be a lot of folks at the campground already on Thursday, so if anyone is interested in throwing together a potluck that night, we can do that too. I can do cheesy potato casserole in the Dutch oven for that one.

Anyone see a Dutch oven theme here? Back to the Basics.

I'm going to bake a large batch of chocolate chip cookies and we're going to roast hot dogs/brats over a fire Thursday night, haven't planned too much beyond that. Have to keep things kid-friendly for the grands who will be along.

We are also planning on doing most cooking in our Dutch Oven----why not?---and going to pull out the pie irons.

Dragging out the cold-weather sleeping bags, too. Nothing worse for them than being cold at night!

Other than fairly slight chances of rain, looks to be perfect weather for this kind of camping. Always best when you can keep the fire going all day.
