Cool Getting geared up

I'm off to bring the trailer home from storage before going to the dentist and stopping at the supermarket for pot-luck makings.

For all our cousins in the frozen north, the sky is bright blue and the temperature is headed to the low 60s today with just a bit of wind. Tomorrow, it should be clear and 74; time to break out the shorts.

Maybe I'll get to do some hiking this weekend after all. The only problem will be that all the small streams are still going full tilt from the recent rains.

Don't even start!

Yeah, the last time Pahaska started with that "eat your hearts out up north" jive our Canadian friends sent us a little present in the form of an Arctic blast that lasted for over a month!! Mix that with a decent amount of Pacific moisture, not sure who to blame that on, and we all got popsicle lookin' Airstreams!

Yeah, but

you'll notice that Pahaska skidaddled out to East Texas where it was warmer and missed all the fun last week. The worst that happened to me is a slightly mud splattered A/S.

Austin Rally

Hi All,l
We just found out that we will be able to attend this weekend's rally after all. Any chance there's still a space available? We will be on airline flights Friday morning, arriving Houston early afternoon, so will check this site when we get home.

If there's a site that you can grab in our name, please do so. Or, if you have suggestions, please send them on.

There's some kind of big music festival going on in Austin this weekend, so we probably don't want to chance driving over without a confirmed place to stay!!!

Thanks,
Carl & Cheryl Jackson
Montgomery, TX

call them

clj,

You will need to call the park direct, their number is (830) 868-7304. They may have a cancellation but it is doubtful since this looks to be a good weekend weatherwise.

Good luck and maybe we'll see you!

Chas

Harley John,

I would have gladly settled for some of that soft white stuff that seems to falling in your pic. We got ice!!

The day has arrived

All I have to do is unplug the umbilical about 9:15 and roll. I'll be there before 10:00

Weather forecast is just about perfect for March; warm and a bit breezy:
Quote:
Today
Sunshine
High: 78
Wind: SW 5-10 mph

Tonight
Mostly Clear
Low: 48
Wind: S 5-10 mph

Tomorrow (Saturday)
Sunshine and some evening high clouds
High: 75

Sunday
Increasing Clouds
High: 73
Low: 50
I have reservation confirmation numbers for 6 rigs and we expect some drive-ins as well; probably about a dozen people all told. My wife will drive in Saturday afternoon some time

Good and bad news

The bad news is that not many folks showed up. We had 3 Airstreams. Peter's classic motorhome, Chas '74 International, and my 2003 International; 3 couples; no drive-ins. I was a little put out about rushing to the park HQ to reserve sites for folks that didn't show up and waiting around to help no-shows set up.

The good news is that we were able to get adjacent sites and the weather was perfect. We had a great pot-luck with more great food than any 12 people could have put away. Conversation went well into the night by lantern light and a blazing fire. We had to extend the picnic table to hold all the food.

To paraphrase my band leader, "We're the best part of the forums gang since we're the ones that showed up."

The photo below is the gang getting ready o tackle the mountain of pot-luck food. Left to right, there's Peter and Cindy, Charles and Lettie, and my wife, Kay.

Motorhome with legs

Peter's motorhome seemed to sprout a pair of legs whenever it was parked. Fortunately, it was a minor glitch and quickly remedied.

Pedernales Falls

After all of the recent rains, the falls were certainly at their best. The falls extend over about a quarter mile of the river where it comes off of the Llano Uplift. In some places, there are waterfalls, in other places, the river roars through winding channels eroded into the limestone. This photo is of the largest single waterfall.

Had a great time!

There could of been more Airstreams ( and people ) but this being my first trip in my Overlander I was pumped!! A big thank you to Pahaska for getting it together. It seemed to really make his day when I rolled in Friday afternoon. He disappeared soon after I set up when he heard this was going to be a working trip, I spent the rest of the evening redoing the fuzzy seals on my screen frames and hanging my new high dollar Ambruso curtains, which fit well and look great! Everything worked as it should, even with the reversed polarity at my site. Only hitch was forgetting to dump my tanks before setting up, the grey water came up through the shower saturday nite.

Here's a pic, maybe a bit dark, of mine setup.
