Class III and IV rapids - Jim, you're SUCH a daredevil!

Um, I was planning on bringing a wiffle ball and bat, and a kite. If that tells you the level of adventure I was hoping for this weekend

We’re thinking about doing the rafting trip, but I was at a WA EMD affair this a.m. and we were told to be ready for a call to work. Apparently there are flood advisories out due to rapid snowmelt with the good weather – especially for smaller rivers of the Washington Cascades. What’s the cancellation policy?

Area road question...

Jim, The rapids sound fun... but I have to wait just a bit longer before I get the "ok" for possible "vigorous" activity. Maybe Don would be interested? Not sure...

To all you who are more familiar with North Central Oregon roads... If we branched off Hwy 97 at Madras and went 26 to 35 to Hood River... what are those roads like? Looks like the highest point is something like 6500 feet... are the roads okay? They are tiny lines on a map.

Just thinking about our options!

See you all soon!

I was thinking the same thing..... We travel 26 all the time, because its the fastest way to Portland. Once you turn off on to 35 at Mt. Hood, there was a big wash out a couple of winters ago(?) from a slide or river flood, but it was repaired.
The best part of going that way is going through the orchards...maybe there in bloom..........
You can check webpage at ODOT- Trip check, to see road conditions.
There is an avalance warning in all the cascades, right now, with the 90 degree weather. It was probably snowing last week! I think the temp is to go back to normal next week.
Happy travels and see you next week Patsi

Hiway 26 is good from 97 to 35. Hwy 35 had major repairs done last summer and there have not been any serious washouts/floods, etc since then. With this week's hot weather there will be more run-off than usual, but the temps are supposed to drop a little early next week. Check ODOT for the latest. The drive from 26 to Hood River is really pretty this time of year and it's all downhill from Mt. Hood Meadows ski area! Darol

More on food: To celebrate my granddaughter's sixth birthday on Saturday, there will be birthday cake. She wants a castle cake. We'll see what I can do about that. Y'all are invited. Nancy, St. Helens, OR

OK - I've been glancing over this thread and we could still use some cinnamon rolls on Sunday morning. Anybody know how to bake these? a couple of pans would do the trick. One more juice donation might be nice as well. We will have about 60 folks eating and that's a lot of juice for one person to supply..

There are several inquiries about a tin foil hat contest. OK.

The hat contest will be conducted on Sunday evening.
Entries may be worn to dinner. A judging panel will be selected on-site based on percieved honesty, sobriety and general good humor. (this rules me out). Any contestant whos entry attracts aliens will be immediatly ejected from the competition.

Other last minute bits:
  • Be prepared to haul your trash away... there is no garbage service on site.
  • Weather - so far so good. It may be windy this weekend.
  • Remember this is boondocking and there is no dump station on-site!
  • We have about 27 trailers coming. This year we have many long trailers and so parking is going to requie some planning. Maybe the first few folks to arrive could come up with one? Last year to save space - we moved tow vehicles to a holding area close to the road. I think we will have to do this again.

We usually bring juce, and we usually take home more unopened juice than we brought! But we can bring some just to be on the safe side.

Janet - we're thinking of bringing some tent loving friends.
1) Is there still room for one 2 person tent?
2) Are there porta johns on site. Our black tank isn't big enough for more use : )
3) OR Are there any known close by dump stations?

We'll bring some cinni (or is that "sinni" buns!) too.

Marc
