Janet-

Forgot to mention in my previous post of what we'll be bringing to share. Most likely dessert on Saturday night and homemade granola bars on Sunday morning...the granola bars are lets say keeps your system working & regular.

Who's in charge of the weather? (Not me!) Predictions of 80+ degree weather this coming weekend are hopeful signs that spring may finally be getting here. I plan to arrive at the Pod Fest sometime Satrurday AM. Since the Tradewind is long gone, I'll be taking up less space - just need room to park the car. Alternative camping accomodations are progressing and MAY be ready for a test flight by then. If so, there will be a "Scoffers' Opportunity" Saturday afternoon. Darol

Hey darol - glad you are going to make it.

I just called the folks who own the place about getting us a little extra room. They said that we can use all the space on the left side of the road - including the space that the tents were last year (behing 2airs chateau).

They will put any other campers (non rally) further up the lane.

This past Sunday while taking wheels off the Cloud to repack bearings and possibly put new tires on my left arm quit working. It just would not function for several hours. I've had numbness in both arms for the past two years but this was total loss of use. A trip to the hospital and a scan showed a mass at the base of my skull and it has to be addressed. Later in the day the right arm shut down for a short while after I picked my cat up for an emergency hug. CRAP! What this all portends I'm not sure but I've been put on an urgent waiting list for surgery and we don't know if that means this week or a month or more out.

We are still intending to come to Area 33 but cannot confirm this now until we are just about ready to depart on the 22nd mid afternoon. If we find that the trip itself is too difficult we'll turn around and head back home.

We are still packing, I'm still doing the trinket stuff I can and I have a buddy coming this afternoon to help me pack bearings and do the wheel swap on the Cloud. The car is almost ready to go although with the truck having reclining seats it may end up out front. That will be the first time we've not used the car for hauling the Airstream any distance and we are still hopeful we can bring the car. It just doesn't seem right to pull the Cloud behind anything else at this time of year.

We will confirm as soon as we know what is happening here, but for now please continue to count us as attending. I hope that is not a problem for anyone, we just want to get there badly but can't confirm yet.

Thanks guys, we sure are hopeful we will finally get a chance to meet everyone and get some serious visiting done.

Barry

I'm really sorry to hear about this latest setback for you. I really hope we get a chance to see you over the campfire at TL in a couple weeks. Hang in there!

Barry, Your must be one of the most determined people around and I wish you the best. Hope Trout Lake still works out for you. Make the trip comfortable - even if that means the reclining seats! You can always bring photos of the Pontiac. I'm pretty much on track to have my new camping "device" ready for the trip. Now we just hope for good weather. Darol

Barry - You are one determined man! I look forward to meeting you in person, but understand how one's health takes precedence.

Good karma coming your way!

Barry,

Good luck with your journey to Trout Lake! I hope you and your family can make the trip with ease... I am sure it will be "good medicine" and prepare you nicely for possible medical procedures upon returning home.

Our best wishes and thoughts to you and your family! Please keep us posted!

Oh, and I don't know if you're still considering making a stopover at Land Yacht Harbor, but we spent a night there last weekend. We were working in Seattle, so we made that our home base. It's just a big gravel lot, but the folks are friendly, and it feels safe because you're surrounded by an Airstreaming neighborhood. In fact we dropped the trailer off in the morning, went into Seattle to work, and when we got back to the trailer at 8pm there was a note on our door welcoming us into town and offering to go out to dinner. Unfortunately we were too busy to take them up on it, but you don't get much friendlier than that. Plus there was full hookups and $13 a night. I was pretty happy. Not a scenic stop, but a safe, friendly, inexpensive place to stay.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm in good hands (I think ) and it just is what it is. Like I'm sure you all do, when something comes at you that is unexpected you take a look, shake your head, and just go do what you have to. But this is such a caring community it is one reason I really want to try to make this rally, to meet the people in person who are on the other end of the keyboards.

We are very hopeful we can do the trip. I just realized I need doctor "permission" since this is now pre-existing and thus the provincial health plan may not cover me should something happen out of province without the doctor saying first I can travel. Darn, I forgot about that. I'll have to work on that tomorrow.

Thanks for the info Steph on LYH. That would be our intent is to stay there on Thursday evening. It is far enough that we will have a good idea of my travel ability, yet close enough we can head back home Friday morning if I'm not having success traveling. I'd better get the red numbers on the trailer before next Thursday. It will be sad to leave the wagon at home but the truck may be the way to go. I just hate the thought - it's like giving in, in a way.

Once again thanks for the vote of confidence and the encouragement. It always helps.

Barry

White Salmon River run?

Hi Area 33 ralliers!

We've been to the TL area rallies the last 3 years and every year we pass a couple of river rafting company groups on the trip up to the rally site. I've often wondered how the rafting was on this river and this year we're going to give it a try! The cost is $60 per person for a 3 hour trip on one of the best rafting rivers in the west. It's Class III & IV rapids.....so it's not for the feint of heart! They leave at 9:30 and 2:30 daily. Our camp site is only about 10-15 miles from the departure site and we can carpool to the event. They provide all the gear including drytops (the water is cold). The morning trip has sunshine on the river, where the afternoon is shaded. I'd recommend the morning trip, so we can have the afternoon to recover! If we have 12 or more people as a group, it will be $55/person, and if we have 24 or more, it's $50/person. I'd be willing to make the reservations if we can have a consensus by this Sunday night. We have a choice of doing this on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. I would recommend we do it on Saturday morning.
Here's a link to their website: White Salmon River Rafting

Soooooo......whadda ya think about this?? Anyone interested??
