wish I could come

Gosh, what a list of folks, I'm retired, my own boss----and I can't come!!!
What a wonderful opportunity to meet so many, and I've not met any of you.
Please don't get started with another thread or tangent here, however, a year ago, I signed up to be the volunteer host for the Top of Georgia campground, and it just so happened to be for that very week.
If any of you drive by there on your way to or from Hiawassee, stop in and say hi- ooooh, oh, oh, oh, I'm so jealous. Have a real good time ya'll.

Top of Georgia Rest Stop

Jerry,

We'll stop in and let you see the axles if you're still around Monday. (I'm sure my children would love to show off the "Rolling Bunkhouse".)

After all the phone conversations, it'd be nice to meet face to face.

(Since my crew will not get there until Friday probably at 7 or later)
....please remember lets all meet ( or at least one from each party ) at 10 am Saturday in the pavillion and I will give out the Raffle info, list of who is where, as well as mention a few things of interest....
Other than that, the barbecue class and tour of homes later are the only formally scheduled activities for the day....until the best part at 6- or so food and drink music and giveaways.

Afternoon activity (Axle Replacement & Maintenance)

Axle discussion & information sharing if anyone is interested.

Ron (PizzaChop) has his installation story to share and I will bring a considerable amount of material (order forms, install manuals, parts, display items, etc.) from Dexter.

This is a sample list of discussion points which we can modify or expand, depending on the group and individual restoration projects.
  • Torsion axle parts & how they work.
  • Terms of measurement.
  • Specifying unique load ratings & how they do that.
  • Bracket orientation & profiles, mounting options.
  • “Start” Angles.
  • Sprung applications for vintage units & their replacement.
  • Getting greasy: “Never Lube” vs. “Easy Lube” vs. standard .
  • Replacement process: selection, measuring, ordering, installation, etc.
  • Replacing Elec. brake assemblies. Tips for DIY.
PM or post suggestions for discussion points.
We can pick an exact time to start and location (pavilion?) at our 10am gathering.

Let us know what you think,
em.

The axle seminar sounds interesting. Ours were replaced just before we bought the trailer. I hope it will be many years before I need to replace them myself. I would like to learn more about the "care and feeding" of axles, brakes, and tires.

Thanks Alan ...driving from Florida

I will indeed try my best to get by to see all you folks- fact is, I would absolutley be extatic. I will have to try to find someone to sub for me while gone.

As for routing from Florida, depending on which side you are coming froim, how much time you have to drive it, how cpmfortable you are driving through Atlanta, and/or would you rather drive a laid back, easy drive, stopping along the way, and looking at the spring flowers as you come (if the temps tonite don't kill them).
Anyway, I live just autside of Atlanta, so I've gone every way there us to go.
If I were coming from FL, and had all the time I wanted, I would come up US441 to Clayton, and take US 76 west to Hiawassee. Some mountains this way.
If I were pressed for time, I would scoot up I-75 anytime except rush hour times (pay attention here) go straight through Atlanta in the HOV lane at my own pace (the HOV lane is slower and safer than any other) and go I-75 north of Atlanta, until I-575, bearing to the northeast. I then would continue until the road joined US76east and continue to Hiawassee. No mountains this way.
Your choice. Your tow vehicle with a 25' trailer is adequate for any mountain , especially east of Colorado. Just don't expect it to run as fast, stop as quickly, or maneuver as quickly as it does unhooked!
Take your time, be safe, enjoy what GA has to offer.
Hope this helps.
If he wants to talk about it, call me. 770-228-6678

YES. They are in a field off I 75 at the Ruskin exit. We drove around to get back there, but did not see anyone to talk to. Nice horse though.

Mario- sorry you guys won't be there! Hopefully we will see you in Perry, although we will be "walk in" day visitors to that one.

Mario and Kelly, we will miss you. I was looking forward to seeing the two of you again, but I guess it will be the fall. See you then.

If anyone's interested in some parts from my '77 that I can bring down let me know.

I have 2 of the 6' tambor rollups with frames that go under the twin beds.
Another tambor that was over the fridge.

Also the old fridge for parts, doors, shelves etc.

And a few others things, PM if any interest
