One slight correction. The Fairgrounds is owned by the State of Georgia, Department of Agriculture. Most of the events center around livestock and agricultural industries...not exactly glamorous if you're from the city, but it is a first class facility that I would expect rivals any other in the U.S.

OK, Tom, so I made a mistake on which pot of taxes paid for it. That must be what GA is doing with all those taxes they levy on the workers of our state! Soon to be two less- we are moving to TN. No more income reditribution for this 'ole boy! UMMMMMM...that could be the start of a new thread. Alan, I'll quit-didn't mean to hijack.
By the way, living in Fayetteburg, how would you remember what agricultural smells are?
May get to finallly meet you next weekend.

Alan, we are originally from Maryville. Tn has always been our goal for retirement. I had 14 yards of concrete poured this morning at our lot at the TCPC Airstream campground in Crossville. It may be that we end up living there while looking for property and then building a house. We both like the Sweetwater valley, as far north as Lenoir City. Cleveland may be our southerly boundry as we both enjoy living in a more rural setting. You and I both need to get away from Atlanta area-it is just getting WAY TOO busy.
I don't know if you've been reading all of this thread....I hope to come over to see you guys at least once during the rally. We had signed up last year to host at the TOG Airstream park over at Helen that week, so I had prior commitments.
We traveled 7 months each of the last two years, and this is actually the first time since I retired that we were in the area during the rally.
Have you ever been up to TCPC?
It's open to anyone in an Airstream as long as there is room. A few rules to go by, but since it is member owned, there has to be a few to protect thier investment when they aren't there.

Sorry about the correction. I just thought if those good folks were moving there I'd start them off with the correct info. I worked for the state for over 8 years and now their system all too well. I work for a consultant now and am loving it! My firm has an office in Orlando and a regional office in Tampa and I plan to request a transfer in mid-'08 so we will be leaving my native state, too. Both cities are really on the grow, but they have a long way to go before they are anything like Atlanta. I have to deal with the commute into the heart of the City every day and it is only getting worse and less traffic was why I moved from the northside to begin with. Now that is a thing of the past too.

I am a dyed-in-the-wool Republican and was delighted when Georgia went Red, but Perdue is not my kind of Governor. I was very disappointed when he was re-elected. Hopefully, his successor will know how to better handle the state's budget. The stories I could tell. At least Florida doesn't have an income tax either. Plus my remaining family lives there.

Anyway, I grew up in rural south Georgia so, while I didn't grow up on a farm I have family that did and I know a thing or two about livestock and agriculture. When we moved to Fayetteville, there were actually folks that still earned a living farming there. We were considered outsiders to be tolerated for our contribution to the local economy, but now we are almost considered natives. At least our kids are. Now farming is just a hobby or a way to have horses.

I do hope there are no hard feelings about the correction, Steelbird. Please drop in on the rally if you can't make it for the entire weekend. I'd love to meet you in person.

Oh, gosh no. If you remember the offline discussion we had on one of the strong opinions a few weeks back- I was kinda' makin' fun. As for the smells in Fayetteville, give it another 20 years, and it will be a tough place to live, not talkin' farming here! Traffic is getting nuts there already.
I'll see about coming over for a while one day during the rally- I really would like to.

Yes I do remember the offline discussion we had and enjoyed it. Yes, traffic is one of the reasons we are looking at moving. It has gone from a 20 minute trip to the hardware store (which went out of business after Home Depot opened) on Saturday morning to a minimum of an hour to do any kind of business on weekends. And most of the cars have out of county tags on them! The only plus is more restaurants to choose from.

I look forward to meeting you while at the rally in a couple of weeks.

Hello All, I got an unexpected yacht delevery to NYC, leaving Lauderdale on the 21st. and can't pass this one up, so we won't be able to make it to the rally. We are very very disappointed that we won't be able to meet everyone, but maybe we can make the fall rally. I believe our site is B-1, June was going to cancel our reservation around 9 AM tomorrow. If anyone wants this site please let us know, we might be able to help,it's lakefront. We're dissapointed, but Hey, life can take some intresting turns

Have Fun Airstream Owners

I will not attend this rally due to conflicts in other clubs. I will miss seeing the folks I met last fall in Hiawassee. Have a great time and safe travels.

Just reserved B1

Hi everybody

We're Roy and Ellen Wall from Milwaukee (Wauwatosa, actually, near Chaplain Kent) - we learned through this forum that the WharfRats had to cancel site B1, so I called the camp site this morning and reserved it. This will be our first rally, and we're really looking forward to meeting everybody and exploring the Airstream world!
