thanks for the information!

I sensed from the previous posts that these informal rallies were fun! I am sold and will get my wife to read these posts also. We are huge music fans (but not gifted personally) and will be going to Merle Fest the next weekend so time is tight in April.

We will need to check out our schedules and if we don't make this one I am definately committed to be at the next one.

Thanks again, this is the kind of thing that keeps a person motivated to follow through on our projects.

Chris

I'm going to Sarasota in 10 days for the monster rally with all their schedules etc.

This is only our second rally after the Can Opener last month so I'll report which format was more fun.

Topics of Discussion at Springstream

Hello Everyone,

This post is not intended to hijack the rally thread and take us too far off subject. However, I want to let everyone know some of the upgrades we are considering for our '92 Airstream in the coming year. If anybody attending the rally has direct experience/comments I certainly want to speak to you at the rally. Please PM if you have information on these items and I'll be sure to see you at the rally. Thanks in advance.

1) We do not have rock guards and window guards on the front of our trailer. I dread the day when a curved front glass is damaged from a rock and we are in the middle of nowhere with no replacement glass available. Many of the new models are sold with the guards installed but ours came from the factory without the added protection.

2) Our 1-speed ceiling fans (one in front, one in rear) are very noisy and don't really move much air. We are considering Fantastic Vents with 3-speed, reversible, thermostat control.

3) Hydraulic disc brakes versus existing electric drum brakes.

4) Applying new clear coat versus painted silver finish. My understanding is that our '92 model cannot be buffed/shined/polished.

If anyone has first hand experience and is willing to host an informal discussion during the rally that would be great.

We can hardly wait for the April rally - we are considering a camping trip before April even if it means re-winterizing.

Lucius

we can certainly discuss much or all of this. I just got a Rockguard thru Inland RV, and hope to install it soon. The idea of a broken window especially on a long road trip we are planning in late Spring motivated me.
Inland shipped it packed well, and with all necessary hardware and instructions. I hope to get it done on the next warm day.
I wil lose my front awning though.

Alan, I see in your avatar that there are two small awning arms hanging down either side of your rear window. Did you take an awning off or are you in the process of moving your front awning to the rear?

rock gaurd

check out my thread "cheap sunglasses" I guess you search for it. Or can look it up under my name....it was about a 40 min. job....as the windows in a 69 are made of unobtainium...i was going to risk it.

No I had all the awnings off while cleaning it up, and have since put them all back. I will have to remove the front one, to put on the rockguard.Lately I have been doing the small stuff inside. More trim for the floor that was not done last time, some wall decor, a new magnetic and bulletin board, etc.

Alan, does the awning over the front or rear window really do much?

I would think if they were tinted it do the same to keep heat out.

It does if you live in the south like I do. Because you can keep the window open. Tinted windows open do little.

The awnings not only keep the sun off the window, they also allow you to open windows when it is raining outside. Mmmm, smell the fresh scent of rain in the early spring.
