Antsy and Troubs - Atlanta - Sept 10, 2010

Our dream has finally come true. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours will be playing in Atlanta. Pinch me, pinch me. I can't believe it's true!

Check out the tour dates at Trailer Park Troubadours Tour Page

The show is scheduled for Friday September 10, 2010 at The RedLight Cafe The RedLight Cafe: Atlanta's Living Room: Art, Food, Poetry, Draught, Music, Open Mic, Internet Access, Social, Entertainment.

This could be a rally in the making. While downtown Atlanta does not have any campgrounds there may be other options. There are Corp of Engineer parks nearby. There are some private campgrounds on the outskirts of town.

There is a large City of Atlanta public park (designed by Frederick Law Olmstead) within walking distance of The RedLight Cafe. How cool would it be to see several Airstreams gleaming in the sun in the middle of midtown Atlanta.

So even if this does not become a rally it's a good opportunity for those of us in and around Georgia to gather and party with Antsy and the Troubs.

We have tickets to see the Troubs in Sellersville, PA on August7th. I love it when Antsy has his band "in range"...

Lucious,

Your excitement is catchy, keep Tina and I in on your plans, this may be a first great rally for Layla. She had a great time at Disney this summer. We are looking for a rally to show her some camping and fun away from the glitzy Disney campground.

Lucius,

You should also include a ride on the Airstream designed trains at the Atlanta Airport.

The Trains Between Terminals?

Are you referring to the underground tram/train taking passengers from one terminal to another? I did not realize those were designed by Airstream. Anyone have more information on the subject?

Unfortunately, the tram is within the secure area so only persons with tickets are permitted to ride.

We are checking our calanders to see if we are in town. After all I have seen online with Antsy and the Troubadours we want to see them. It would be a fun night. Don't know about pulling the 31' with the 22' truck into downtown but would probably set up at Altoona somewhere. We are living full time in the AS so we will be with it somewhere.

Yes, according to "wanderlust" these cars were designed by Airstream.

Ticket Prices?

I checked the RedLight Cafe web site and see two ticket prices $15 and $20. Anyone have details? Are these reserved seats? Does the extra $5 actually provide a better seat? I don't think this is a very large facility so it seems like the $15 would be just fine.

On a slightly different subject - anyone interested in camping for the weekend? MRHottinger mentioned Altoona. McKinney (Corp of Engr)? Red Top Mountain (GA S.P.)?

I am tempted to buy two tickets if you'd agree to take two cardboard cut-outs to the show for us. Brad Pitt- and Angelina Jolie-looking cut-outs that is.

We are open to meet at a campground. We live in the AS full time anyway and we enjoy our time at either park. We would hit the park Thursday afternoon and then I would work Friday morning then return to the park Friday afternoon. At McKinney we can reserve specific site numbers which is nice.

Looking forward to it.

Federal Grant Monies used to write Ticket Policy

email from the cafe:

"we have decided to offer $15 dollar advance tickets. we have tickets at the red light cafe or you can call the red light any night we are open and reserve them with a credit card number and a $2 processing fee. we are open wednesday through sunday after 7pm and our number is 404.874.7828."

and just to keep things interesting:

They have an 8pm show with $7 tickets. Antsy starts at 9pm for $15 or $20 (cash prices). Sooo..... will they clear the house of all those with low end tickets to make room for the high rollers at 9?

We would love to see Antsy and company. We were at Bolding Mill a couple of weeks ago and it is fantastic. Perhaps that would be a more convenient (less traffic) location to camp.

Count us in. Let us know.

Livin' in Aluminum...weekends only at this point.

It's Official We Have a Rally Graphic

There's no backing out now.

Janet, one of the forum moderators, was kind enough to make a rally graphic for us. Soooo..... things are coming together. Is it a rally? Is it a meet-up? Who knows and what do those terms really mean anyway? People getting together and enjoying life... sounds good to me!

I'm inclined to go with a camping spot on Lake Lanier. There are a number of Corp of Engr parks so specific sites can be reserved. Has anyone made a reservation for the weekend yet? MRHottinger - you mentioned Alatoona - are you willing to go with Lanier instead?

I'll speak to Danielle about this to see what shapes up.

Where's the rest of the Georgia contingent? How about you folks in TN, AL and SC? Are you up for it?

It's Me Again...

Looking at the Corp parks I realize they lock (with a padlock) the gates at 10:30. My experience has been they don't budge on that policy - if the gate is locked that's it. You better have an absolute emergency on your hands if you want it unlocked!

I called Bolding Mill and they have a parking area outside the gate. Many other parks on Lanier don't have parking outside the gate. I don't know about Alatoona.

If we're camping and carpooling somebody can leave their vehicle inside and the other drive to the show. The outside parking is at the boat ramp. It's not secure but there has never been a problem with break-in/vandalism according to the campground host.

Any comments. I'm not keen on leaving my vehicle outside but I'd give it some consideration. Anyone else?

I can do so. We don't have anything valuable, except cast iron and firewood. Hard Labor Creek the closest SP?

Possible Campgrounds?

Danielle and I were north of Atlanta today so we took a look at Bolding Mill campground. The campground is very nice but I think it's too remote for this particular weekend particularly when combined with the issue of the locked gate.

I'm leaning toward a state park to avoid the locked gate problem. Fort Yargo would work better for us compared to Hard Labor Creek. Comments?

State Park North of Atlanta

Red Top Mountain State Park is off of I-75, about 11 miles North of Cartersville.
