Ran into editing time limit on that last directions post.

From the park website:

Stone Mountain State Park is located in Wilkes and Alleghany counties, six miles southwest of Roaring Gap. From I-77 North, take Exit #83/Hwy 21 North/Sparta/Roaring Gap (you will exit from the left lane). Go north about 13 miles to Traphill Road/state road 1002, (you will see a brown state park sign) and turn left. Go about 4 miles to John P Frank Parkway (you will see a brown state park sign) and turn right. Follow the parkway to the park, about two miles.

From the west, take NC 16 to NC 18 in North Wilkesboro and then turn right onto Hwy 268 East. Go about 3 miles and turn left at Airport Road. Go about 3 1/2 miles and turn left this becomes Traphill Rd (SR 1002). Follow Traphill Rd to John P. Frank Parkway about 11 miles and turn left, follow the parkway to the park.

We have driven to Roaring Gap and back on Stone Mt. Road/Oklahoma Rd 1100 off of 21 just S of Roaring Gap. Not sure I’d recommend that route while towing. That might look like a route of off the BRPW thru Roaring Gap but might be better going a bit further south on 21 to Traphill Rd and then west on Traphill.

If you are coming in on Traphill Rd from the west and the GPS says TURN HERE and its not John P. Frank Pkwy. Don’t take it.

Do we have any chefs experienced in making Aebleskivers coming to Alumaslider?

We've got the skillet, but need the secret handshake and demo.

Never heard of them

I grew up in upstate SC, so I had never heard of this. So Google, I did:
http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/...e-balls-414783

I cannot make this Danish dish, but if anyone wants Grits, a southern delicacy for breakfast, I cook them for my morning meal with hot sausage, and eggs.
I grew up on a farm, and 6:30 am breakfast sweets wear off about 9:30 to 10 am. Because we did our hardest work in the morning, early morning sweets were near taboo. After joining the military, I now hardly eat sweets at all.

Yeah unless the old folks were from Denmark not exactly a common thing.

Annette,

That’s a deal.

We can get close but they are more like a round pancake ball.

Need practice and such.

Thanks

Gary,
I realize this is from the park website, but it is apparently talking about coming from the south and west, not the west as in from the West Jefferson area. I will be coming in from 77 but leaving through Wilkesboro to hit 421 and then 221 to get to West Jefferson. I don’t want to tow 16 into WJ.

As an aside there are several apple orchards on 16 south of Wilkesboro. We have stopped there several times to load up with fresh apples before coming home.

AlumaSlider - Stone Mountain SP, NC

For all our Slider and non-slider friends in the Southeastern US... Our thoughts are with you as that mess of Florence comes on shore.

We're still a couple of weeks out from the AlumaSlider, but we're wishing you all the best to get through things.

Tom,

Waiting, watching and a few more preparations for us. At home we are in the path but inland. A neighbor is on the management end of the power company power restoration team. He called yesterday and said to tighten your seat belt. They have already setup crews at the parking area for the Darlington Raceway. Several thousand trucks and crew from the eastern states.

The waiting is a bit tough, let’s get this over with.

I need a campout, soon.

Gary n Linda

Gary,

We all need that camp out! Can't come soon enough.

Glad to hear that the Power Folks are in place. I'm hoping for you that the infrastructure damage gets cleaned up quickly. It's the trees and power lines down in the road that mess things up.

The way it usually goes...the Tree guys won't work on tree's with power lines in them...Power guys need to get the lines moved so the tree folks can clean up.

Tom

Slider Rally

Hope everyone weathered the storm OK and things are getting back to normal. Just checked the North Carolina State Park website and looks like Stone Mountain State Park reopened today. Things should only get better as the week progresses. Looking forward to seeing everyone for the slider rally.

Our life is crazy right now! Our last night in our house is Tues Sept 25. Plan is to drive to the Rock Hill Cracker Barrel wed night, and the on to Stone Mountain on Thursday. Am bringing plenty of wine ( that we need to drink up) and several bottles of “brown” liquor and it all needs to be gone by end of the weekend. We will officially be South Carolina trailer trash , living in an RV park till Jan. But who can complain, house sold fast.
What are meal plans? Are we on our own or ?
See you all next week

AlumaSlider Get-together

Mary & Jeff - Good for you guys...we can't wait to see you! We start our trip this Friday night...we'll hit Cabela's overnight in PA. Saturday we're visiting the kids in VA. Sunday we're Stone Mountain bound!

Online here we've talked of a "Hot Dog" night...and a breakfast thing. We're gonna bring some "small batch" real NH Maple Syrup for the cakes on that "Cowboy Cooks' Griddle".

Got some NE IPA's, along with some other sippin stuff for around the campfire.

Safe travels for everyone!

We plan to leave Monday the 24th and spend the night at Anastasia Island SP. Tuesday our Papillion has a vet appointment in Jacksonville. After that we will return to Anastasia, pick up the trailer and head up to Skidaway Island SP in Georgia for Tuesday night. Wednesday we are headed for Stone Mountain. Looking forward to seeing everyone and all that sliding aluminum.
