Alumaslider II Oct 18-20 2019

Alumaslider II 2019 Slide Out Society Get Together

When: October 18-20, 2019

Where: Stone Mt. S.P. 3042 Frank Pkwy, Roaring Gap, NC 28668

We just finished the inaugural Alumaslider and we had a darn good time. The camp, the mountains and all it offers plus the Sliders.

Let's get those calendars out and Be Prepared to schedule early cause this time we're trying to hit fall color season.

Reservations open up 11 months prior to your arrival date.

Stone Mt. S.P. is located just a few miles as the crow flies south of the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) and about 20 miles west of North Carolina I-77 exits 85 or 83. Arrive early and enjoy discovering the countryside.

Loop B has 40 sites with water and electricity and Loop C has 10 dry camping sites, scattered hydrants, picnic table and fire ring at each site. The bath house is centrally located in Loop B. Loop A is for tents and pop-ups I do not recommend it for anything over a single axle at best.

Stone Mt. is in a forested hilly area a few miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway and at the base of Stone Mt. is the Hutchinson homestead. It can be reached via a nice walk thru the forest. Stone Mt. peak can be reached from a trail and the view is pretty darn good, hills, forest and all.

The area is about 30 miles west of Mt. Airy NC, the fabled home of the Andy of Mayberry TV show. Worth a trip to reminisce and visit the Andy Griffith museum.

This is also in the heart of the NC wine region and many vineyards are only a few miles away. Boone NC is a nice drive west off the BRP and makes a nice lunch run and shopping.

Many took advantage of the trails and hiked into or even OVER Stone Mt. and the view on a clear day is spectacular. Even got reports of some fly fishing in nearby streams.

The area is a popular fall camp area for the mountains and BRP so make your reservation early or keep an eye on the reservations. Reservations open 11 months prior.

Linda and I have camped here six times and we keep going back, the sites are nice sizes, park is well maintained and the adventure or lounging is your choice. Very few sites have overhanging tree limbs, and a creek runs thru the sites. Weíve regularly seen deer in camp.

We'll kick around details later but the simple hot dogs, pot luck and I think we had some pancakes and a few pounds of BACON! likely will be starting ideas.

Think we can beat nine slide outs?

Looking forward to meeting you.

The first event was a wonderful meeting of other owners and a chance to see slide-outs with with well thought out customizations. The park was terrific with nice bath facilities and is clearly among the best within the NC Park system. It should be spectacular in full Fall foliage.

We look forward to meeting many more owners at the second event. My calendar is already marked with a November reminder for the first date one can make a reservation for the October 2019 event!

Thanks for setting this up Gary! We enjoyed Alumaslider I and are looking forward to Alumaslider II.

After Alumaslider we went to the other Stone Mountain and watched a dismal Ga Tech homecoming game, then we went to the Carolina Balloonfest, and are now at Alumalina in Marion, NC (in the rain). We will be heading for home on the 7th with a stop in Jacksonville for our grandson's third birthday.

Our version of a "Slider" is an Airstream with a slide out. A limited number were made and this is just a forum get together to have fun and camp.

We had 9 this past sept and a few non sliders joined us.

Anybody that wants to enjoy what several attendees described like where has this park been? Never knew about and we live in the SE all our lives. Stone Mt. N.C. Has become a favorite.

You're not far away at all, join us for Alumaslider II and enjoy the mountains and new friends.

Gary

Thanks for explaining. I thought thats what it was, so I was thinking it's for the new Atlas owners. I didn't know there were other slide outs...I'll keep my eyes open to spot one!

Gary,

It appears that the Carolina Balloonfest in Statesville will be on the same weekend as you have scheduled Alumaslider II. While the dates have not been officially announced, their site says it is the third weekend in October. We are working on turning this year's rally of 23 Airstreams there to a joint rally with other WBCCI units and hope to have 40 Airstreams there if it all comes together.

John Leake has tentatively announced the following weekend 10/24-10/27 as the dates for Alumalina 2019. If Alumaslider were one weekend earlier than currently scheduled it would probably make three rallies in a row in the same vicinity, similar to this year when there were three rallies in four weekends.

Just sayin.....

Al

Al makes an excellent point. In addition, the fall Georgia Mountain Air rally in Hiawassee will be the weekend of Nov 8-10 making four regional gatherings in five weeks. At least one, maybe more, will have colorful leaves.

Am I missing something?

Alumaslider II is oct 18-20.

I checked with John before scheduling the 18-20 dates.

Happy Friday.

Gary,
Yes, Alumaslider is scheduled for the same weekend as the currently listed date for the Carolina Balloonfest. I will try to confirm the dates with the Balloonfest.

From the Organizer

The Carolina BalloonFest, which takes place every third weekend in October, offers patrons the experience of a mass ascension of over 50 hot air balloons, a spectacular balloon glow on Saturday night, and live entertainment all three days of the festival.

AlumaSlider II - Schedule

Forgive my "Tough Love"...but some may have to make a choice as to what to attend given the options available.

For us we're still working. We don't have the option of a multiple week, multiple event adventure. As much as we'd like too, it's just not in the cards for us at this juncture

Personally my choice is to opt into the current schedule that Gary has published for AlumaSlider II.

YMMV...
