I am writing this from the emergency room of the hospital where my brother was just taken. HHe was still concious when they brought him in, and they are not 100% sure of the diagnosis, though I have heard the words congestive heart failure, renal failure, prnuemonia mentioned. More news as it becomes available...

Dear Terry and Marie, I was looking at my calendar and also evaluating my energy level and wondering if I'll be well enough to come to Alumalina and actually enjoy it, or just get there tired and just not really participate.

I'd decided to give you my reservation rather than worry about the whole thing - and IF then felt fine, to go on a shorter trip - a two hour drive or so away.

Now I read about your brother and I'm just heartsick. You and Marie really don't need even one more thing on your plate, but all I can do is hope that whatever your brother's crisis is, it passes quickly. If your brother does well enough for you to go to Alumalina - my resrevations are yours FREE. If not, can we have some kind of "Lucky Possum" contest where I give the winner the reservations? I was looking forward to meeting old friends and new, but right now I need a morning nap, an afternoon nap, a Listerine and NyQuil cocktail and another nap. I don't want to cook ANYTHING until I'm sure I'm totally healthy (not that I'm above contributing a case of domestic champagne - wrapped in paper towels and served with Orange Juice as a mimosa to keep the troopers from seeing) but I also don't want to overdo and get another dose of this crap.

Unfortunately it can happen that really bad upper respiratory and sinus infections can damage one's hearing - seems to have happened to me, so I need to go get checked and fitted for hearing aids. Don't ever want to be like that woman who "whispered" to her husband in church - "Oh dear, I think I passed gas, but luckily it didn't smell..." and her husband responded, "Dear you need to visit both a hearing professional if you think you were whispering... and have your sense of smell checked too."

At least a couple of things we know for sure at this time: He has blood clots in both legs, and is severely dehydrated.
They are doing a CT scan, and blood tests for cardiac enzymes.

I might feel good as gold in three weeks, but while I'm over the bug, I've got ZERO energy.

Since I know there's a waiting list I'd rather not have someone else who really really really really wants to get into the park give up, make other plans, and then have me crap out two days before hand. Better my reservation should go to someone by the end of next week so they don't have to go through a last minute fire drill to get there.

Terry so sorry about your brother. This kind of clotting issue can be life threatening - but when they catch it in time, it is usually quite treatable. Takes TIME and blood thinners to clear them out, but 100% recovery is common. I'll hold off until Thursday the 12th before I give the reservation to anyone else.

Thanks, Paula. My brother is getting some more tests run, after the results come back, one of the doctors will be in to speak to us. From what I have been told, he has ailments that cover the entire spectrum of medical specialties here.

Terry, so sorry to hear this. I just saw you YESTERDAY, for goodness' sake.....things happen much too quickly. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Marie and I are home for now, and I can tell you what the doctor told us about my brother.
He has a very large blood clot in his heart, which is throwing out small pieces of itself into his bloodstream. He is badly dehydrated, and the hospital has him on iv fluids, as well as heparin to help break up the clot. His kidneys have partly shut down, but they are hoping they will start working properly again. He has tissue damage in his legs and feet from impaired blood flow. He is currently in cardiac intensive care, though with all the issues he has, he could have been taken in to any part of the hospital for treatment. We will be visiting him frequently while he's in the hospital, and he is on several prayer and thought lists. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers here, he can use them.

In an unrelated note, I found out Marie's new car will go very fast when it has to...

This is the list I have, not sure just how accurate it is. I tried to keep everyone in the order in which they posted. Best advice is to stay diligent, keep checking the thread and the Park itself. Many times things change as the dates near.

All the more reason to move Alumalina to the Palmetto Cove in October. 140 full hook ups, plenty of room. Go ahead NOW and mark your calender for October 22-25. More later.
