more recap.....

Bits and Pieces....some good things to know
THE LOCATION...

The Palmetto Cove is located just off SC Hwy 11.
521 Table Rock Road, Cleveland, SC 29635. Phone #864.836.6221.
It is not hard to find but it is tucked away. GPS or their website will get you there.

It is a member owned, not for profit park run by volunteer members. They are VERY NICE FOLKS and are glad we are coming. They are camping folks just like us. Some are also Airstreamers.

All sites at the Cove are full hook up. One row has 50a, let the parking crew know if you need it. The hookups (W/E/S) will all be at the rear corner, driver's side. All sites are $25/night, they can only take CASH or CHECK. All sites are exactly the same.

They are opening early for us but not until March 24. Might be best to wait until the 25th to give them a chance to get squared away.

The Cove will handle the parking. They will have a plan and will do their very best to accommodate everyone. They will spot you in your site and note your name and site number. After you settle in just go to the office to settle up.

The Cove is in a beautiful area so be sure to find time to get out and look around. There are no supplies at the Cove, not even ice. There are limited supplies in the area.

There is decent wifi in the park and somewhat spotty cell service. A new cell tower has been built near by and may be up and running.

The Cove has a meeting hall with kitchen and laundry, a large covered pavilion with big fireplace (they furnish the wood), and a lounge with kitchenette. We have full use of it all at no cost to our Rally. Feel free to come and go anytime.

If you want a fire at your site it must be in a raised fire ring.

RALLY STYLE PARKING...

Simply means side by side, back to back, in rows. It is very Airstreamish and similar to the wagon wheel style parking Wally pioneered back in the day. Wagon wheel parking meant everyone was equal, and important, just like the spokes in a wagon wheel. At Alumalina, everyone is equal and everyone is important.

Your neighbors will be close so be sure to get out and meet them.

MEALS....

More on this later but please bring your table set ups to each meal. We will provide coffee each morning, bring a cup.

DOOR PRIZES....

We will have drawings for door prizes after supper on Saturday night. Every rig gets a ticket. You need not bring anything to give away but it is certainly welcome.

RAFFLES...

We will have several raffles going for anyone that likes to gamble a bit. Cheap thrills. Bring along a few extra bucks. Proceeds go toward rally expenses.

FLEA MARKET....

The flea market is open 24hrs every day or until you want to close. Under the pavilion, in the meeting hall, under your awning, wherever you want to.
Crafts, junk, swap, freebies. All proceeds go to yourself.

RALLY FEE....

We will be asking for a small rally fee to help cover expenses. Once again we are requesting $25 per rig, no matter how many are in your rig. A real bargain. If you are alone, consider it helping out the family of 5. We will have a table set up at each meal for you to register. Thank you in advance for helping out.

NAME TAGS....

It is always fun to put a face with a name. Especially a face with a Forum name. We encourage EVERYONE to wear a name tag of some sorts. A WBCCI badge if you have one, or make your own, or both. Be creative. We will have some blanks and markers available.

RITA...

Rita will be joining us once again Saturday afternoon under the Pavilion. Come by, shake hands, meet her. She is a lot of fun and will make you smile. If you would like to bring her a small gift she will gladly accept it. She likes the cheap stuff.

ALMOST DONE....

We have meals and activities planned and offer a bit of a schedule. Feel no obligation to participate in any. But I can honestly say that you will miss a lot of good stuff if you don't because all your pals will be there. But.... Do what you want, when you want, and where you want.....

Just be sure of 3 things:

1. Have fun
2. Stay safe
3. Make Wally proud.

If you need anything, let us know.

a few more tid bits....

We have a rally packet for everyone that contains, among other things, the schedules, menus, tech bulletins, a couple of serceys, and other information to help make the weekend fun. Be sure you get yours.

Also in the packet is a blank NAME TAG which we encourage everyone to fill out and wear so we can put a face with a name.

John's RV....Airstream of SC....will be there with a new 30' Flying Cloud on display. Ron Rawl will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about Airstream's newest line up. Please stop by and thank Ron for their generous contributions to our rally. They are good folks.

Remember that the Cove is member owned and staffed by volunteers. They are your best source for local info if you need it. The men will be wearing the yellow vests, the ladies will staff the office.

The Saluda river runs along the back of the property. Take the marked trail off the back side of the pavilion. A very short walk, and the river is beautiful.

Enjoy yourself, you are among friends.

The park has some high pressure on its water system and the people who work here recommend you have a water pressure regulator.

John,

I don't know if we will be able to make it down in time. Have to check out unusual wear on one tire and replace it. Something strange is causing it.
If we can't make we'll shoot for the fall rally.

If you can get your hands on an 8 ft florescent light bulb, or something equally straight, place it across the center of the wheels and note any gap where the bulb touches the tire edges. Any gap greater than an 1/8 in. and you have a bent axle. Check before buying a new tire as the new will go just as fast as the old.

Free delivery

As has become a tradition, if anybody needs parts, you can order them at Out Of Doors Mart through noon Wednesday, and I will bring them with me. Free shipping, and since Palmetto Cove is in SOUTH Carolina, out of state purchases don't have sales tax. Just let the person you order from know to give the stuff to me for delivery. And, of course, what your name is, and how to find you. Last year, I had to bring some stuff back, because somebody didn't tell us how to find them at the rally...

Perhaps folks ordering from ODM and having you make the delivery could make a point of finding you at the rally.

That would make too much sense...

A Public Service Message From Overlander63

For anybody traveling in or through the state of North Carolina, be advised there is a statewide strict enforcement of all speed limits. They are citing people for driving as little as 1mph over the limit. I mention this after a coworker was cited on his way to work this morning.

NHdigger - While diagnosing your tire issue be sure to check the bearings. With the wheel off the ground, spin it and listen for any sound other than the brake shoe dragging, and then wiggle the wheel itself to gauge bearing slop. If the bearings are slightly worn or the axle nut is set too loose you can get unusual wear on that particular tire.
