11-12 Dutch Oven Cooking 101: campfire cooking with the reliable Dutch Oven. Easier than you think, and lots of fun. Cakes, biscuits, stews, possum. Led by ''GCinSC2'' Gary Croyl and ''Chillpoints'' Jon Hettrick. If you have a DO and would like to break it in with the pros, here's your opportunity. Under the Pavilion.

Gary, Looks like we will need to put our heads together and figure out what we want to cook. Typically my ideas contain some golden liquid from a amber bottle. I guess this will work as long as we are not serving until the end of the time slot.
By the way I am bringing a little something for you as well.

Looking forward to seeing you and Linda again soon.
Jon

Jon,

A bit limited to kingsford style but one idea I shared with Sandpaper borders on the DO 001 KISS plan. I'm looking at simpler starters that you can do just to get used to the cast iron Swiss Army knife. Learn some heat techniques and fancy recipes follow.

Hey Gary and Jon, whatever you guys come up with will be great, and thank you in advance for sharing your vast knowledge.

To all DO cooks....please feel free to join in the fun. The time slot lends itself to a hot lunch.

Big Hooter...say it ain't so

with close to 130 rigs, we need all the possum we can get. The break out at Camp Hooter is indeed bad news.

Maybe our low country pals can subsidize with Armadillo, the other, other white meat.

I guess if push comes to shove, we can always use chicken... it tastes just like possum.

Thumbs up No Worry- Plan B,C & RK in place

I have put into effect three plans to recoup from the lost possums.

Plan B- I have put a bounty out for neighbors and friends along the Blue Ridge Parkway to trap or capture new possums on their land. I think a bounty of fifty cents a pound is a generous bounty, what do you think?

Plan C- as you said, maybe add the other white meat (chicken) to the bog? But that will cause the cook team to adjust their cooking schedule plus picking the feathers off the birds. Of course the cook team will want "free range chickens" and all of the egg companies are changing over to "free range" egg production. This may cause a problem obtaining the chickens.

Plan RK- this is our fall back position..... We will have to get our team members alerted on Easter Monday to start driving back roads and picking up fresh road kill and putting it on ice to keep it fresh. Of course there are some excellent country roads around Palmetto Cove.

I will give you and update on my bounty program next Saturday before we start plan RK.

Have a great week Mr. Sandlapper and we will SEE YOU DOWN THE ROAD.

Remember we give a HOOT.

I'm not coming to the rally, but I pulled a dead possum out if my neighbors pool yesterday. Do you want me to next day it to you? It's kinda already precooked. Have fun

Thanks Jim, we can use it. Being par-boiled helps reduce the cook time.

Don't need to hustle up any possums for us since we don't eat nary any animals. (I've actually shushed a couple back into the woods.) We will be heading to the gathering site on the morrow and will hold the fort till the wagons are circled.

We have had our airstream for a little over a year. This will be out first rally. Please give us some tips or advice on what we need. I've looked at the schedule and have allowed for the meal sharing. What else do we need?

Come with whatever you need and want to live comfortably for the days you are at the rally...that's all, besides potluck offerings.

Bring your favorite chair for the endless happy hours and most comfortable walking shoes for strolling around to meet everyone. It's as good as it's gonna get for your first rally.

Hey there Sdt, Maggie and Doll covered it pretty well.

You will have a full hook up site, so facility wise, you're covered.

Your trailer will be your home away from home.

The food will be great.

Lots of experience and knowledge sharing available, bring your questions.

Don't be shy, you will be among friends and when you leave the rally you will have 250 or so new best friends.

Bring your funny bone.

Nothing is required except that you enjoy yourselves.

You will like it.
