Sitting on the porch waiting for Matthew to come and go. Just a good straight rain so far. But it has given me a chance to prep the Escape Pod for backup. My case, it sits in the backyard under a carport 120V and water hookup. Biggest inconvenience concern is loosing power. We're on a well and I've stockpiled some but for the first time I filled and sanitized the tank and drum roll, the pump works! Flushed out the tank and refilled. Now I know what the noisy pump comments are about.

With the batteries and tank of propane the fridge will run for a long time. I guess if we loose power this will be backyard boon-docking. And I have PLENTY of Coleman stoves, lanterns, cast iron skillets, Dutch Ovens and my famous box oven with a couple apple pies in the freezer.

We're maybe 100 miles from the coast so we're most likely less affected than the rest of the coast.

Couple more weeks then the biggest little rally kicks off.

Prayers said....

....for everyone in Matthews path. He is cutting a wide swath.

As Gary points out, your Airstream makes a great escape pod. Keep it ready.

Living where I do my Airstream is my escape pod. I keep it mostly stocked, prepped and ready to go year around. I can be on the road in less than two hours. I keep spare water, gasoline and propane on hand. Once a storm hits it is too late to start worrying about being prepared. Fortunetly we Airstream owners can easily be self contained with enough water and food storage to get thru several weeks if need be. Power can be supplied by batteries charged by solar and small propane powered generator. Not a prepper just and old Boy Scout that believes in "Be Prepared".

AWCHIEF,

BSA training is a big part of it. I'm only missing a good shelter area to fire up cooking equipment.

Power came on after about 90 min and has flickered couple times.

Speaking of Matthew .. I took off for the hills this weekend - Abingdon VA and it's been nasty all weekend. No creeper trail for us!

Another good question...glad you asked

We have set the rally fee at $35 per rig. It covers the cost of the food, and it is good food....

Hot dogs on Thursday night, continental breakfast on Friday and Sunday mornings, the bog on Friday night, and the fabuloso fish supper on Saturday night.

The $35 should (hopefully) allow us to break even.

Now....if you are arriving solo, and wonder why you must pay $35 for only yourself, I say ''thank you in advance'' for helping subsidize the family of 4 that may be your neighbor. We encourage folks to bring the family and do not want to discourage them because of the cost. We love everyone and hope you will also.

We will have a table set up at the meals so everyone can 'fess up. We will not track you down but hope you will do the right thing and pony up the $35. It can be cash or check.

It will be well worth it, and you will like it.

I'd be glad to subsidize those large families. It's just gonna be fun and I'm looking forward to my first big rally.

I think I emailed you 2 weeks ago, but my wife Pam and I would like to attend. Can we squeeze in somewhere?
Thanks,
Dennis

All,
Just want to remind you about a chance to share your favorite campground, destination, areas, etc. I heard from John that we are scheduled for Friday from 9-10am to gather in the meeting hall to share our ideas. Robin and I are bringing information about fossil hunting in Kemmerer WY. I will have handouts about the area, samples of our fossils, and local camping opportunities. This is a good destination if you are traveling out west toward Yellowstone or Utah.
PLEASE plan on attending and sharing yours, it is a great resource for newbies and experienced alike. This does not have to be professional presentation but an exciting opportunity to share with others. Looking forward to seeing others suggestions.

Thanks,
Thomas
