Alumalina, A Carolina Gathering

Alumalina, a Carolina Gathering
March 23, 24, 25

An invitation to Carolina airstreamers and friends, and anyone interested in an informal get together. I know you are out there, now it’s time to gather. No dues, no rules, just fun. Everyone pays their own way. Long overdue in the Carolinas, hopefully the first of many twice a year get togethers.
Let’s gather twice a year, maybe Spring and Fall. Perhaps move the location around the Carolinas to spread driving distances out more evenly, allowing more folks the opportunity to participate.
Keep things simple. Everyone makes their own arrangements, everyone is responsible for their own behavior, and everyone is responsible for their own safety. Maybe a potluck supper, open house, even a flea market/swap/shop. Mostly an opportunity for like minded folks to come together and HAVE FUN, Carolina style.
There are many excellent public and private campgrounds located throughout the Carolinas. I welcome your input, and also suggest that perhaps the first gathering be near Charlotte, close geographically to the center of both Carolinas. Having it near the center may allow for more participation for the first meeting and Charlotte is easily accessible via I-85 & I-77.
Camp Wilderness at Carowinds is a possible first meeting site. About 15 minutes from downtown Charlotte, it is located on the grounds of Carowinds Theme Park, approximately 1 mile off I-77. Full hook ups, paved, mostly level, mostly open sites suitable for group camping. Reservations can be made, and because Carowinds is not yet open in March they are offering a rally rate of $29.99 per night. A fair price for a 3 way hook up.
Nothing is set in stone. Please get on board, make it known, and help make it happen. It is past time for a Carolina gathering. Mark your calendar, tell your friends, and share your thoughts. An informal get together open to ANYONE that wants to come and have fun.
Alumalina, “nothing could be finer…”

Safe and Happy Travels,
John and Susan

Post It And They Will Come!

This sounds like a great time. We're working on our schedule for next year and we'll be sure to put this down as one possibility.

Thanks for posting this and here's hoping for a good turnout.

Sounds interesting and feasible...but not for me unless something changes. My Airstream is still undergoing it's 120 step rehab Might be able to catch something a bit later.

Lucius , come on up to see us, we'd love to have you. And Aaron, turn it up a notch and get on down here so 10 years from now, when this gathering is famous, you can look back and say " hey, I was at the very first one!".

I have been checking out parks on the Carolina coast. I want to camp near the beach. I am glad you are planning something in the Carolinas. Very pretty state.

I think that some of we Virginians will make it down your way. We're interested. Dates are a factor.

Brian, I have thoughts of moving around the Carolinas for the gatherings to capitalize on the best parts. Coastal areas in the spring, mountains in the fall.
If you're looking for an awesome SC coastal state park I highly recomend Hunting Island State Park near Beaufort, SC. On a barrier Island, very tropical, hard to believe you're still in SC.
For full amenities, beach front camping it is hard to beat Ocean Lakes CG in Myrtle Beach. The Region 3 WBCCI rally is there next April. A good time to check it out.
I am a native South Carolinian so let me know if I can help. Hope we see you at Alumalina. John

Jack, I set the dates but they are not in stone. Seems everyone's calendar is packed full these days, mine included. I blame it on cell phones, they allow too much to be able to be done.
We would love to have you folks come down, the biggest reason I chose Charlotte for the first gathering was it's easy access to a lot of people. It is an easy drive from 5 - 6 states.
Being a native Sandlapper I love my state, but always thought my second pick would be Virginia. We picked the fight with the North but you folks sure backed us up. Thanks. John

Edisto Beach State Park south of Charleston is one of our very most favorite places.

Sites right on the dunes are hard to get, but everything is just a few seconds from the shore. It's all lovely.

A great place to camp, nice little town in Edisto with everything you might need, great area for bicycling.

This may be doable for us. Will keep our eyes on this.

Haven't made any real plans for our winter trip yet, got some things going on here that are still a bit up in the air, but we always go to South Carolina.

We are only 800+ miles from Charlotte, plan to visit an old friend in NC this winter. I will watch for final choices for sites. We can be there. Greg & Bonnie

Hope you can fit us in, we're always glad to have you here in SC.
"Smiling faces, beautiful places". Gonna go ahead & commit to the March 23-24-25 dates, and the Camp Wilderness location so folks have a definate time & place to plan on. By the time Christmas/ New years is over, March will be on us before we know it, thought it best to go ahead and nail it down. Hope it works.

Please come, you will very likely get the prize for longest distance traveled for the rally!

Just posting so it will keep this thread popping up on my list. We like this rally, just have to look at the dates more carefully.

Done. There is a RSVP thing for Alumalina on the Airstream Rally Calender for anyone that might want to sign on. There is a place for "maybe" and one for "we're coming". Neither is written in stone, either can be changed. It helps with the planning.

I'll put this one on our maybe list. If the timing happens to move a week later, it would fit our schedule. We will not be coming back to NC until the first week of April.
