What is WITH this abominably cold weather! Pulled SilverLeaf out of her shed to "load out" and de-winterize. Yeah, well, gotta leave the furnace on tonight as it's supposed to get down to 28 degrees. Oh, and the basset girls KNOW we are going somewhere tomorrow as they saw the dog food getting packed. See you early birds tomorrow afternoon! (And, Maggie, you KNOW all of your Alumalina family are thinking about you and we know you're with us in spirit!) Barry

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend of fun & fellowship and safe travels. I hate we can't make it this time around, but I'm keeping an eye open for any fall dates that are announced. Maybe we'll be road-ready by then. See you down the road....

We may be running late tonight so I have dropped the hot dog buns off with Kerry and Mark who graciously stepped up to help. So the buns will be there in time for dinner tonight. I'm hoping we are too but Brad has some meetings today that may cause us to be late.

Thanks Kerry and Mark and we'll see you all tonight!

Tam here: Steve and I had huge fun at the rally on Saturday. A big thank-you to all for your warm hospitality. And John, thank you for inviting us down. We loved the tank class; john, you really know your sh**! And the dutch oven class was also amazing. We learned so much from everybody during the open house that we now can make an informed decision when we pick our first, and hopefully only, Airstream. Also, I don't know if I have ever been to a gathering where there were so many TRUE cooks. The food was beautiful! We are so so so looking forward to joining!
Very warm regards, Tam and Steve

Thank You!!! Beetlebob and I had a fantastic time!

Thank you for allowing our pint-sized, shrunk silver vehicle to join all the beautiful Airstreams. We learned a lot and have now modified our plans on how to customize our future home to suit us best. (Barry, if you wake up to find your fine trailer missing one morning, you will know where to look. )

Sandlapper John, you are the host with the most! We enjoyed meeting your lovely family and Jay was a very quiet neighbor.

Our next rally will be Hunting Island Hiatus in November. I know that some of you have signed up already and look forward to seeing you there. Our truck, which we should have in our possession next month, will be making its rally premiere there. We have named it the "Air Commander."

Safe travels to all and see you down the road!

Alumalina, Spring 2014 is now in the books, largest group, over a 1/4 mile of Airstreams including 4 motorhomes and it sure surprised me THREE Slideouts!

One of the things I was looking forward to was cast iron cooking, if I missed someones contribution and didn't list it, please add it.

4 loaves made in DO's led by Chillpoints, Italian Herb, beer bread and a wheat bread. MoparJohn got his new DO fired up and made a loaf. MoparJohn donated a collection of jams and such for the breads.

If you ever get a chance to see Jonathan (Chillpoints) in action with his outside cooking skills, I highly recommend you stop in and say hello. He has quite the setup, the pic's of his setup don't show the details of the collection, even down to a custom paper towel and cooking oil holder.

For Saturday breakfast, we had 3 breakfast casserols, two made in DO's one in a skillet. Pancakes were made, but with the overnight rain and drizzle we had to cook over propane, but it was a cast iron griddle.

Thursday a simple DO chili for the hot dogs, later followed by popcorn made in a DO.

Friday my best 1/2 put together a bean and ham soup in the DO and a darn fine cornbread in a skillet but baked in a cardboard box oven. While we had the box oven out, Linda did a dump cake in a skillet for the Possum bog dinner.

Jonathan cooked up a special recipe of greens, bacon and onions for the fish fry, in a DO you bet.

And this AM we were outside our camper and Jonathan and Allyson came out and plated a Monkey bread, DO again. They offered us a bite but we passed as we were walking the camp and figured, no problem we'll get one in a few minutes. All we saw was a dirty plate when we got there. Oops.

In spite of the occasional drizzle, lots of campfire time, lots of stories and a darn good attempt to burn a hole through Thor but we didn't make it happen.

Its a real treat when you meet someone and you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. Jonathan and Allyson's daughter Rebecca played from the Phantom of the Opera on her violin and later played for the lucky ones at the Saturday evening campfire, closing with Amazing Grace.

John and his staff pulled off a super weekend and you'd have to have been there to see all of the details that John put together including welcoming goodie bags with a pair of coffe mugs, an Alumalina wine bottle holder and paperwork for the weekend. John and Susan, many thanks for all of your efforts.

Our thanks and appreciation to all who worked so hard and contributed so much to make this a great weekend.

Maggie, I think you'd have been pleased Doug was remembered and a toast offered. A special moment.

Gary

We had a wonderful time again. Thanks to everyone that put this together and helped out. We really look forward to the next time. Our trip home was fairly uneventful till we got a flat tire when backing the trailer up our driveway. Still don't know what happened. The tire looks fine but totally flat. We put the spare on and will get it fixed tomorrow.

Sandlapper, Alumalina clan et al.

WOW what a great weekend was had with everyone. John L., Terry, John F. & John L. IV you all went way above and beyond with this great weekend.
What fun to be camping with great Airstream folks and the rain did not dampen our spirits or fun.

Rita added a lot of spirit to everyone when she showed up for the Saturday afternoon entertainment. Where else can you get great low country possum bog Friday night and a great fish fry on Saturday night?

Doug ( the Chaplin) said it this morning during Chapel, the great thing about Airstream Rallies are the people who jump in and put on a Super Pot Luck breakfast dinners and fellowship.

Maggie you and Doug were in the middle of all of our thoughts, events and fun that took place this weekend. Yes Doug was toasted by all and I am sure he was looking down from on high. We all look forward to seeing you in the fall when the clan of Alumalina meets again.

Thank you to all who touch our lives this weekend.

Kindest regards,

John & Anne Ashworth (aka Big Hooter)
