Santa was Here!
Well it looks like Santa knew what was on my list…no, not a football. Now I'm anxious to try it out before March. Life is Good! Seasons Greetings!

It's almost over.....
........Christmas, that is. It was very good at our house and we hope it was at yours. We are blessed in many ways.
Time now to focus on March and Alumalina. We are working on a number of things and will firm up in the next few weeks. The food, the schedule, seminars, overflow parking, things we have and things we will need.
It is exciting to see such a large and enthusiastic crowd in only 3 years time.
Stay tuned............
John

John,
The tree is still up, haven't hit Wally World for returns day ain't gonna either. Might go to M.B. and hit the Coleman and Lodge stores this week. Ain't even thought about new years yet or tried out my new Weber Q120 mini super grill yet. This one is the traveler size, got a Q200 on the back deck. I see we got at least one new DO under a tree already posted, got folks looking for guest spots and we're supposed to start working on March. Heck I hope to have 16"s by then.
Its good to be having fun.
Gary

Yep, 3 short months from today we head that way ourselves. In fact, we are headed there tomorrow for a weekend, I will check on the possibility of overflow parking. I know they have a big parking lot right beside the CG, not sure if they allow overnite in it. We shall see.
I also know they have 72 sites but only have 69 available. Most parks always hold a couple of sites open in case they have a reservation screw up. It is also worth a look.
I'll do my best to sweet talk the nice lady at the desk.
Just in case, you folks needing a site either sign up for the cancellation notice or keep a good eye on the Park's web site for a cancellation. It happens.
July 4th this past July, we decided last moment to look for a site down there for the weekend, knowing darn well it would be slammed. Low and behold, a couple days before the 4th, a waterfront site became available. Best site in the whole dang place. Of course we snagged it, had a blast. So, don't give up, keep checking.

It's pretty scary to know Darrel spotted me on I-85 headed to my son's house in Charlotte for Christmas. And, yes, I did have the Rhoda and Nola with me, and they enjoyed the short trip from Greensboro. Again, SilverLeaf serves as home away from home when the "in-laws" are visiting him and guest rooms get scarce. I won't even begin to extoll the virtue of a quiet place to sleep the night Santa's showing up. And, even though it got down to around 24 degrees, WE were warm and cozy. I really don't mind doing the "winterize-dewinterize" dance. Oh, AND I baked biscuits for the NC Ham-Biscuit tradition. March can't come soon enough for what promises to be the BIGGEST Alumalina ever!

Hey Barry, no doubt about it, Airstreams draw attention, ESPECIALLY from fellow streamers. Ya just can't slipp'em under the radar.
Maybe we can persuade the State to add about 25 more sites to Wateree.

And, the sesame bread version was as delicious as the others.
Crunchy, chewy crust with light and lovely interior. Sliced beautifully in the oval, new-normal shape.
We will have about 6 variations, tested and true, ready to go, and I will post the basic recipe and ingredients a week or so before the rally.
We head south in about two weeks. Next pics will be from baking these loaves in the DO with charcoal.
So fun!
Maggie

Lucky day
Just snagged site 61 so we'll be attending for the first time. Have been checking for a while so was surprised when the campground map came up showing one site available. Works out great though as we will be on the way to Edisto for our spring visit. Looking forward to the event and meeting ya'll

Alan, I must have called them right after you did. I asked how the "stand by" list works. The ranger at the park indicated that Reserve America sends a blast email to all the people on the list for the time frame that becomes free. It's first come-first served then. I would have hoped for 1st right of refusal instead by request submission-date, but nope.
He also indicated that the only open site is 48, designated handicapped only.
Still hoping that openings will show up (cancellations do happen) so that you and possibly other lurkers may have the opportunity to see how fine is 'Carolina.
Phil
PS, Alan someday you should plan to attend the CanOpener.
PSS, I do not appreciate autocorrect...I spend more time fixing what it thinks I want...

CanOpener comes right after our two week winter break, so we can't take the time off.
Also its over 6 hours drive time. For a weekend...doesn't make a lot of sense for me.

Reserve America's Alternative Notifications
We too were on Reserve America's "alternative notification" list for the rally dates and never received a notification. After Alan posted I did some research and found that the blanket notifications are sent out overnight after an opening happens so if someone cancels in the morning a notification does not go out until that "overnight". As already posted, anyone requesting the same type site and dates should receive a notification. We've never used the alternative notification feature before and weren't sure how it worked so I still occasionally checked through RA. While on the computer the other evening, I happened to check the park's site on Reserve America and there was the open site, thus the lucky day. If anyone else is interested in a site keep in mind the alternative notification is not immediate and cancellations could be available at any time.
Hope this helps.

Keep trying, everyday
It is best to go directly to the Lake Wateree web site to check for sites. Plug in the dates, if there is an opening it will show up. Reservations via internet are done thru RA, best to call the park office if you can during regular hours. They have limited office hours during winter.
803.482.6401 Lake Wateree State Park office.
We spent 2 nites there this past weekend. I inquired about overflow parking. Nope, the State doesn't allow it. Checked out the "campground" about a mile up the road....definately no.
Best bet, KEEP CHECKING, everyday, sites usually come open.
GreggH, glad to have you join us. We'll get you on the map.

OK Sandlaper How big are the spaces???We would like to come even though we do not have our AS yet. If all goes good we will have the truck and can sleep in it and use the restrooms at the camp ground. Will anyone be able to let us park out M2/106 in there site. It will have a short wheel base and look like a service truck so might blend in as someone fixing someones AS. Would like to stay Friday and Saturday.
