Saavannah

Savannah is a beautiful historic city with a park along the river, lots of interesting shops, restaurants, and more. City market has many art studios and restaurants. Broughton Street has more high end clothing and arts shops. The prestigous Savannah College of Art and Design has a large influence in Savannah and talented students arts can be found in many shops and galleries. Lots of festivals there. Savannah was a planned city with 13 squares (parks) with beautiful huge oaks and in the spring lots of azaleas are in bloom. Several historic homes are open for tour. It is the location of many movies and currently is host to two movies.

Also there is historic and beautiful Beaufort with a wonderful riverfront park located near Hilton Head. Bay Street has great restaurants and shops. There are many historic homes along the river and in downtown Beaufort. Beaufort has also been the location of many movies.

We live just half hour north of Savannah and half hour south of Beaufort. We do have courtesy parking.

Kingfisher and Poprivet, glad to have you join us, we're working on a good time.

Poprivet, where the heck is Okatie????

And Kingfisher, all kinds of goings on in/around Myrtle Beach. You name it, they got it. Been going there since we were kids. Seafood, shopping, golfing, shows, and of course great beaches. 2 state parks, 3 big campgrounds, all ocean front.

That's funny John ...
Okatie is really not a town but an address for the folks just west of Bluffton. You know the Okatie Indians were the early settlers here. About 10 miles west of from Hilton Head. I did not know we had other Airstreamers located so close to us. We look forward to meeting them and they are camping right near us at the rally.

Okatie South Carolina's main attraction is Sun City Hilton Head, a Del Webb/ Pulte 55+ community of about 7000 homes. Glenda and I live here and enjoy it. The location offers close proximity to all the low country has to offer One of the things that differentiate this community from other Sun Cities is our RV storage area. Gives us a place for the motor home when we're at the home port. The storage area is managed by volunteers from the RV club.
Glenda and I hooked up here in Sun City and married about a year ago. This will be her first Rally and we are really looking forward to meeting all of you. For many years I had a Airstream classic 250 motorhome and went by the handle of Poprivet - sold it - and bought a 4 slide SOB diesel pusher which was totaled by a semi in April somewhere in Texas. We are in the process of purchasing a 2004 Airstream 30J LY and that's what we will bring to the rally.

Great news that you guys are coming to the Rally. Just don't tell Glenda that all the rally newbies get the possum skinning honors.

We have one of those Sun City communities in our county. Very, very nice. Don't know how many homes it has. Good for you, finding SC's low country, no other place like it on the planet. We always enjoy our time down there.

Sounds like you are a veteran of the road wars. Glad you have come thru it in almost 1 piece. Travel safe to the rally.

Almost time, won't be long at all. Bill is already a tall dude, any taller and he may not fit inside. A few sips from the silver cup to soften his head.

How 'bout any of the other low country folks, any others coming??

Bob, excellent choice. You will enjoy Wateree for lake camping and of course Hunting Island for ocean camping. Wateree has a small causeway sandwiched between 2 backwater areas of the lake that should be great for paddling and fishing. Both Parks are some of SC's best.

Just bring a smile!!!!!

Smile planning the trip

this will be our first expedition to the southeast...excited about seeing all there is to see and would like to solicit any and all advice and or comments.

we will leave texas and head for natchez, ms and there i have planned to follow us 84 across ms, al and georgia. we always try for state parks so after the park at natchez we will try for bladon springs, al, then to seminole state park near donaldsonville, ga..actually looks nearer to bainbridge.

any comments on where to stay while in georgia will be greatly appreciated.

the next stop , we think, will be crooked river state park near st mary's, ga... 2 days.. looks great we will plan two days here to explore the area.

then to jekyll island , or what else in this area?,... 2 days

then to explore savannah...fort mcallister..or skid way island...which one is the best? 2 days

then we will head to hunting island, sc for two days

and then on to the rally

what is the weather like in this area in mid september.

we travel with three english cockers

we have previously been full timers but have been off the road for awhile...and a new to us trailer...a 28ft versus our previous 25footer...

so this will be our first voyage...as part timers...

Paula, really can't speak about the Georgia coastal camping but it is bound to be great. I'm sure you will get some good advice from the folks down that way.

You will love Beaufort and Hunting Island. great seaside camping, biking, fishing, hiking, aligators, and the light house.

Edisto SP is next up the coast. Also ocean front, a very quiet park/community.

If you have never been to Charleston, give it a look. Several campgrounds in the Charleston area. James Island County park, Oak Plantation are both good and easy access to downtown Cton. Take a harbour cruise and a carriage ride.

From there you can take I26 East to I77 North to the rally. Easy 2 hour ride.

Once you see some of SC's jewels you may not want to leave.

We would be glad to have you stay!!!
