I just saw your fantastic work. Super Job, it was just like being their again. You have managed to set the bar extremely high for all the other AS get togethers to follow. I second the motion to make you an official Southerner. Now we just have to think up a fitting ceremony to induct yo'all.

Hey Steve, why don't we let them skin the possum next year. That ought to do it.

I'm so glad everyone is enjoying the video. Having such great material to work with -- fun times, great people, lots of good humor and some sunshine and outstanding food and awesome Airstreams and and and --- really made it an enjoyable project.

I'm not sure it rises to the bar of becoming an official southerner: I think I need to put in a LOT more time before becoming deserving of that lofty honor! But if the southerners we met are representative of the label, then Bruce and I would be truly honored to be inducted! What a hoot!

Dorsey & Bruce,
I have submitted your Application to the Grand Poobah of the Honorary Southerners Association (South Carolina Chapter) recommending full approval with all rights and privileges.

You have already met two of the requirements:
1. Making Shrimp and Grits in a cast iron pot (some of the best I have ever tasted)
2. Drinking Liquid Grits from a Mason jar.

I will also get John Leake to endorse your application, which will have great influence on the Grand Poobah and the Governing Council.

They may require a few more requirements be meet before full approval and acceptance. I am sure those requirements could be met prior to or during the next Alumalina.

Then your induction ceremony can be planned. I will get input from John, Terry, the Governing Council and others to make sure your induction Ceremony will be conducted within standards of this elite organization.

Good Luck!

Hank,

I'm not opposed to the nomination far from it. But shouldn't there be a final exam of proper pronunciations of a few names and such?

Like how do you say:

Huger SC? A city in Berkley County
McBee SC? A city in Chesterfield County

General SC questions:

What the name of the thingy you put your groceries in at Wally World?

What time does the Wally World open up the non groceries section on Sunday in SC?

Whats the SC State footware of someone that is not currently hunting?

What is the meaning of cash money?

Do you put BBQ sauce on anything? What kind?

You mean there are other footballs teams beside The Cocks and Tigers? Name one.

Anybody got any others, I gotta get back to the work thing.

Gary

A DMN Yankee enjoying SC.

My daughter knows what GRITS are as she is one.

Here's a question. How do you pronounce Beaufort (as in the town on the coast of both Carolina's)? Hint: it depends on if you are from NC or SC.

Gang,

In my efforts to accumulate test questions, it became apparent that I didn't add NC items to my list, and as I think we were actually in the Tarheel State, we need some NC items too.

And McBee is pronunced MacBee, not MicBee as it might look, Huger, well as I hear it on the news its more like Hugee or possibly Huge E, but not Hug Ee, whatever it ain't got no R in it.

Good answer Maggie.

Now, the GRITS question.

I am also a "GRITS"

John,

I won't give the answer away just yet, but I too am a "GRITS" (albeit an old one).

John,

It seems pretty clear that you have started a snowball and the leftovers from the Spring version are still being re-hashed (don't they serve hash with BBQ) and the ashes stirred. I bet most folks that made it and several of those that didn't would like to see a fall rally. but the big thing is not to burn out our Cat Wrangler / Gopher / Chief Possum Chef / Organizer Extrodinare, the Honorable Sandlapper and his sidekick Susan.

So John, if there's a fall version a comin' I bet we can come up with some staff to assist.

I'm volunteering today.

And not sure if we can do it, bet we can though, I'd like to serve pancakes from my 20" cast iron skillet. Maybe even buckwheat pancakes to boot.

Good job Sandlapper.

Gary
