I just checked the weather for this weekend and it looks to be HOT for the weekend. Does this park have a pool?

Beach but no pool
Not a swimming pool. The Moraine View State Park shows a beach and swimming area at the Black Locust picnic area. I've never been to the swimming beach. Here's a link to a map of the park http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt...ps/moraine.gif The rally is by/at Gander Bay.
Some years we've wondered if we'll need to use heaters at night during the rally; other years it is really, really hot outside.

Well, we're at the lake for sure, I think the actual swimming beach, IIRC, is on the other side of the park near the campground store.
I will be attempting Mac and Cheese, I know it sounds easy, and it prob is, but I don't cook. So I will have an extra insurance policy taken out, a disclaimer at the pot luck table or will have a plan "B" item, like a cake or some sort of desert.
We went to that BBQ last year as it was around the same time. It was a really neat little gathering in downtown LeRoy.
**edit**
Actually I just did a Google Map view and the swimming beach is across the lake from the campground store, but it is on the other side of the lake from us....of course I don't recall any no swimming signs along the shoreline by the campground....

Well I'm here - where is everyone? Drove over this morning from Kickapoo SP near Danville. Rain held off until I got all the outside stuff done and has now stopped but more on the way with Strong Storms forecast for later this afternoon and tonite. Rally forecast now calling for possible T- storms Fri/Sat/Sun with temps mid to upper 80's.
Couple of things. Big sign on water outlet to boil before use so you might want to arrive with a full water tank or some bottled water for drinking, cooking etc.
For those coming for the first time. When you exit I-74 at Le Roy you will see a sign for Moraine View just before you get to 150 telling you to turn left. But there is no sign that I can find telling you the road you have to turn on to go to the park. The road you're looking for off 150 is right beside Casey's General Store and you will turn right.

The weather service I'm using shows 30% chance. It shows no rain for Saturday night. I guess we will see.
Curious about the water outlets. Is the boil sign on all outlets or only at a particular site? I'll call tomorrow to see what is going on. I've got 3, 5 gallon jerry cans I usually bring up to supplement our supply. Thanks for the update. Water there never was the best. Lots of sediment. I remember it almost clogged the filter I use after filling the 5, 3 gallon cans.
Personally I'm not too happy about this boil issue. I wonder if they broke a line and just had it repaired? Maybe if we are lucky the boil order might be gone by the weekend.

Only water outlet I've seen is right here in our area and it has a sign hanging on it. Will check some others and see what I can find out tomorrow. Steve Mentz at Alumapalooza also mentioned something about water problems here but I don't remember the details.

I recall being advised on this rally thread last year that the water at Moraine View was rather vile and to bring your own.
There were severe storms in Central Illinois over the weekend, could be a water main problem somewhere as a result of that.
How nice that Al-K4GLU is scouting everything out for us.

The park water failed a EPA Chlorine Test and that is the reason that all water for drinking needs to be boiled. It is park wide and will still be in effect this weekend. This info is from one of the campground hosts,

Thanks Alan for the water update. I'll fill my 5 gallon containers prior to leaving home. For those who don't have any, you can find them at Wal-Mart for minimal cost. Just be aware that each will weigh in at 40 lbs or so when filled.
I'm in the process of sanitizing the holding tank. A cup of bleach into the holding tank, add 60 gallons of water, let it sit 4 hours and drain and flush once or twice. I also turned on the pump and pushed a little into the lines.

For those of you coming in Friday, be sure to review the list of attendees and know your site. The Moraine view staff may not know the exact site I have given you. I am providing a list but you never know if the guest host will have it with them. Those of you arriving earlier made your reservations for the early day so you are in the right spot...I hope. Also remember that you technically have paid for Friday so the only additional fees you owe to the park is for days prior to Friday or Saturday and if you overnight on Sunday.
Sites reserved at this point. 6/9/10

We may be short on meat at the potluck, for Doug & the other serious carnivores out there, so are pulling some Italian Beef from our freezer and will also be bringing that along with rolls.
