Hey Clancy Boy .... if you're in site 131 (my guess), Roadtoaster and friends were in that site and the one next to it in September. They have some real snake stories you might want to know about...

Lets see, while we were there in September, saw one pygmy run over, another picked up by a ranger by the tram stop, 3' cottonmouth at #167 ( I witnessed this one and the capture by the ranger) and another 3' something at our site #131. Makes you pay attention when you walk around!!!

I would think that the snakes will be hibernating by then...unless we have a warm autum...hmmmm. Maybe I'll take some snake repellent.

just relax during the winter they hibernate in dens or snake dens.

They get out of hibernation from the end of April to the mid of May.

No Fish Story

But, a true snake story......we were there, along with some other forum members. There is a lot of wildlife in our area that usually coexists with humans....but, not always.....a few weeks ago, a good friend's dog was killed (in his backyard) by black bears. I might add that he lives in a fairly large subdivision. Depending on how warm the Winter is, some of the reptiles don't always know they are supposed to be sleeping.

This July 2008 article is from our local newspaper:

SANTA ROSA BEACH - A woman taking a morning walk at Tops'l Resort in South Walton County was seriously injured when she was trampled by deer Tuesday.

According to South Walton Fire District Deputy Chief Sean Hughes, the woman was near a wooded area near the tennis courts shortly before 8 a.m. when three deer ran out of the woods and trampled her.

Emergency crews arrived minutes later and called for AirHeart helicopter to take the woman to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola because of possible head injuries.

The woman was not identified.

According to Tops'l employee Aubrey Williams, who saw the incident, the woman, her husband and daughter had gone for a walk. The mother got too warm and turned to return to her rental unit. She was some distance away from her family when the deer came out of the brush.

"She was at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Williams.

Williams said the woman has broken ribs, back injuries and a light concussion and was in intensive care at Sacred Heart.

Unless you want to be the subject of a 2010 version of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" (or snake bit), it might be wise to err on the safe side........Mother Nature does not always follow the rules.

I usually have worse situations with the 'wild life' that is paying to be in the campground.

Bob, I'm shocked and appalled that you would doubt the veracity of my story . I wish I had a pic, but at the time, I was more worried about keeping my flesh a very safe distance from a rather upset reptile. If I see said critter in January, I'll see if I can have him dropped by your site, you can take your own pictures .

By the way, I'm glad we will be neighbors again.
