Mary & I reserved lot 129 at Topsail tonight. We are really looking forward to meeting some fellow Airstreamers. We will arrive Thurs. and depart Monday.

I will have Mary post her potluck dishes. She is a very good cook.

If anyone would like to counsel me as to my choice of #129 I would appreciate it. There are still several other sites available. This is my first visit to Topsail, and I just looked at the map and pictures, and selected a site.

BTW..... my avatar is not a current picture. It was taken about 1957. I am the 9 year old with my parents and their 1st Airstream. And yes, I still have #1200.

Mike and Mary, site 129 is great. Typically, the diesel engines from the waste water treatment plant right behind you don't go on until maybe 3 am, so you should be able to get a nap in before the activity begins.

Seriously, you will love that site - good choice.

Talking Topsail: Very nice!

I was working in the Destin area the first three days of the week and plugged Topsail into TomTom and found my hotel was only 3 miles away. I went down to take a look and WOW, is this a nice place. Must be the Ritz carlton of camp grounds. I told the rangers I was coming in for the Canopener and wanted to see where our site was. They gave me a pass and talked about 10 minutes about all there is to do in the park. I drove around thinking being a Tuesday the park would be empty. It was almost full, but no Airstreams. Our site is awesome!
DW is going to really like this, we are used to gravel or dirt when camping. Very nice concrete pads will really be great.
Annette is in CA and will be back soon, We'll post what we are bringing to the Pot Lucks when she gets back.
One question, anyone know what the proper angle of the pinky finger should be when sipping something from the vine at a Canopener Rally? I want to practice so I do not embarrass myself when I get there.
Look forward to seeing eveyrone.
Joe

It's not the pinky angle to be concerned about - it is the telltale red vino stain on the front of the shirt, just below your chin. Typically it can be covered with a little red sauce from the dinner...

Well ya learn someting new everyday. I thought the elevated pinky was to let it dry after using it to stir.

Or perhaps dry the pinky after getting that pesky spot of cork out of the vine.

You can bet red sauce will be served sometime during the Canopener. DW is Italian and knows how the make red sauce! Great cook! Maybe something with some fresh grouper one night.
Anybody bringing a grill?

I was given to understand that the beverage of choice needed to be a silver bullet. Is that not correct?

We use one of those Weber BabyQ grills, if you need to borrow it.

In exchange for super-duper scrumpdillious grouper.

Is it too early to think about a Red Bar outing? As opposed to an outing at the Red Bar, which could produce a very delicate situation with the locals.

Grills

We will have the club house on the 8th and 9th of the weekend. We can also use there grill and they can bring it to us if we need it.It is not a big one as that one finally crapped out from what they said but they have a standard one about 2 1/2 to 3 feet wide if we need it.

The Campground people remember us all coming there every year so they are happy to help us out with whatever they can.

We have our reservations, we will be in site 112, coming in late afternoon on Jan.6th and staying through the 13th and then hopefully on to Nature's Resort in Homassa Springs. My contribution to the raffle will be a "Can Opener" floor mat, painted on site.
This will be our first long trip and we are excited and looking forward to some sunny weather in Jan.

we're allowed to bring a campfire pit with us if it's elevated, right? We just got one of the small ones from Lowes for the Hiawassee rally. Can't camp without a fire! It's just NOT right!
