Updated map. Hate it for everyone who cannot attend.

We'll be staying at Kolomoki Mounds State Park in southwest Georgia on Wednesday night, rather than coming through Montgomery on Thursday. There were 22 of 24 total spots available, so it will be both COLD and QUIET.

Tim, but is Bernard going to start? We lived in the Chicago area for a few years and I remember those really cold times where I put a droplight under the hood for added heat, the car door wouldn't unlock or if it did it wouldn't latch shut and I'd hold it while I drove, and the tires clunked for a while going down the road until the flat spots unfroze. All in all, the weather here will be ok, 45-50 degree high temps and a lot of sunshine.

Bernard says "Have some faith, man".

Actually, I rebuilt one side (leaky side) of the carburetor yesterday. The truck did start and run smoothly once I reinstalled the carb. I do have to make adjustments today as the idle speed should not be 1500 rpm.

He will be started and warmed everyday until we leave. Probably while at Topsail, too. We now travel with the battery booster, after last year's problems leaving the Canopener.

With the weather being cold (not above 50 until next Monday), we are curious what folks are planning to do with their free time. Books, boardgames, movies, etc, etc? Indoor socializing, joint meals, and the open local attractions (WalMart, Redbar, Ace Hardware)?

We'll be walking the dogs quite a bit as usual, make quick trips to the beach, and ride the bikes (maybe), but it's hard to get motivated to sit in a trailer most of the time.

Maybe we can snag one of the open spaces to build a community fire pit. Run extension cords to power all those electric blankets. Maybe put out "dance cards" and what-not.

At the very least -- the ticks shouldn't be out this year.

Larry and I were in FL in 1989, sailing the Choctaw Bay! My mom and dad had a house on Rt.10 at Niceville..(.Moosetags may know where that is.) All the local folks were running around in parkas and worrying about going south...TX and Mexico...to get warmed up.Traffic was a nightmare for them....the dreaded black ice. WE, Ohioans, were all in sweatshirts and wondering what the heck was with them! LOL! Don't wimp out! You can do it! Have fun at the rally! Making friends will keep you warm. Wish we were there. It is 26 degrees here and we have about 6 in. of snow and it is still falling.
If you chicken out, remember that Springstream rally in n. GA is coming up in April. Join us there!

What free time??? I guess you haven't signed up for the 1st annual Polar Bear Swim, or the necked midnight streak through the campground!

Actually, it isn't THAT cold during the day, if the wind is not blowing. I was out loading some gear into the truck today, and as long as I was in the sun....not bad. It's when the sun goes down, or the wind comes up that it gets a bit brisk. But, that's the time for a bit of JD and coke to take away the chill.

For real activities:
- there is a National Football Championship game to watch Thursday nite
- a bit of layering should be fine for Friday visiting and welcoming new arrivals...and there is the Red Bar excursion on Friday evening......followed by lie-telling around campfires (we're carting some wood to add to the bonfire)
- Saturday is a busy day....why not have breakfast with the Rangers, do some more lie-telling until the Open House at 1:00 PM, followed by Happy Hour, Pot Luck and Raffle.

Since Steve (Devoman) has the clubhouse reserved Fri-Sun, it should be available for folks who would prefer to congregate there to socialize......but, that is a bit reminescent of "other" rallies.

Sometimes a bit of hardship makes things a bit more fun. Some of our most memorable Harley trips involved either freezing temps or pouring rain. We gonna have fun.....and, if necessary have some shirts printed up that say "I survived the frozen Canopener 10."

Chief

I'll bring some wood along, and some stuff to persuade it to get goin'. ;-0
I dislike being cold too, but I'm still going. Being an original New Englander, this is cold, but it isn't That cold! We could have ice and snow. Although, snow does have it's insulating qualities...

Obviously many of y'all have not experienced the spring Bristol race (NASCAR)! This weather will be a "breeze" in comparison. If you need outdoor warmth, come see us at our site. It'll be the one w/ the 'red glow' coming from it! All are welcome!
Looking forward to meeting everyone. See y'all on Thursday.

Philosophize

Quoting from that great philosopher, Burt Reynolds, who said to the Snowman in Smokey and the Bandit "We're going to hang it up son; we ain't gonna make it".

It's 13 degrees in Indiana. The secondary roads are covered in snow and ice, and the forecast for tomorrow is more of the same.

Mary and I have looked forward to this as our maiden voyage to celebrate my early retirement (last month). We were really looking forward to it, but it's just not gonna happen.

We wish everyone well, and look forward to meeting up with you all at some future event. Topsail sounds great, and we definitely want to visit sometime. It's a shame the weather turned so bad, but Florida in January or February can be fickle.

Site #138 will be available in just a few minutes. It's a great site according to Sugarfoot.
