Updated map. Hot cocoa is a must unless you're more of a hot toddy fan.

I am just hopeful we'll be able to start our tow vehicle in this cooler weather. When he's cold, he's downright uncooperative.

the tent sites have electric hook ups.

so consider bringing a ceramic or oil/radiant space heater...

or both.

much safer than a flame based heater inside the tent.
___________

also, my understanding is the tent area is basically EMPTY except for you.

the 2 sites where parking is CLOSEST to the camp site are sites #1 and #13.

#13 is very private (trees/palmetto on 3 sides) at the back and 15 feet from the parking space.

#1 is up front, by the road and about 25-30 ft from parking.

the shower room is central to both, my preference would be #13, for the privacy and parking AT the site.

while the main campground does NOT allow ground fires (raised pits only)...

the tent sites have fire rings on the ground, with small grills attached.

so bring fire wood or manufactured logs.

cheers

We burn tents at the end of each rally. It's motivation for them to show up in a trailer for the next rally.

Nearest Grocery and Walmart

For first time attendees of a CanOpener rally, directions to the nearest grocery store are - from the park entrance, go north on Highway 30A to Highway 98 (about 1/2 mile), then go west 2.3 miles (according to mapquest) to a Publix grocery store. For Walmart - go 8.5 miles further west on Highway 98 to Destin, Florida. Walmart is right on Highway 98 and is a Supercenter.

Are we still doing the tour of homes on Saturday? We have some friends coming over from Pencacola that I know would enjoy it!

We're in 134, and bringing the trade wind after all. I couldn't get the grey tank in time for the 18 footer... maybe in 2011!

Is there anyplace to buy propane nearby? It looks like we'll be using the furnace a lot.
It' s 10 degrees in Indiana tonight. 50 degrees is starting to sound warm.

If no one here responds, call the park and ask if they know. I can't remember a location that fills tanks close to the park.

Also, make sure your tanks are full if you arrive later on the first night. Most places there close earlier than you'd think, being off-season.

Hey, anybody know what time the pot luck and Sunday breakfast will be. I'll need to know so I can get the Dutch Oven going to have our meal done in time for the rest of you.

See ya all there.

We are leaving Wednesday morning around 8 PM and will arrive sometime Thursday.

In a pinch last year, we bought a grill-sized tank and swapped it out with our 30 lb tank overnight. We're bringing one with us in the truck as a backup.

IIRC, the gas station/convenience store at the corner of 98 has those little tanks available. The Home Depot (in Destin I think) also has 24-hour tank exchange/purchase.

Phil (12 degrees this morning here in north-central Georgia)

Has anyone traveled along I-85 southwest of Atlanta recently? I'm curious how much of the road construction is complete and how much of the new road is open.

Thanks.

I wish we were coming but company from CT changed the plan. I do love the comment about the tent burning. You all have a great time and we'll be watching from afar!
