Michelle
I will pass this on to Donna and see if she's up to it. I could see her and our friend Judy (they just bought a '51 Flying Cloud this past summer that needs to be updated) heading down with our trailer and truck.
Thanks,
Barry

Sounds good Michelle. The timing might be right for me as well.
The beach sites reserve in advance and are a little harder to get in to but if we plan ahead we may be able to work it out. Check out El Capitan and Refugio...both are state parks by the beach in the Santa barbara area and have nice camp sites.
Lake Cachuma would again be an option that is first come first serve. We could do a field trip to the beach or Santa Barbara proper. And there were a few wineries we missed plus of course the Cold Spring Tavern.
Ladies? What say you???

Do we want to stay around Santa Barbara Area? How about Malibu RV across from the beach on PCH with ocean view on the bluff? Pismo Beach is also very nice as well.
Problem with state beach site like El Capitan and Refugio might be size. Will Michelle's 31 ft accepted in one of those beach campground? Is there a group site that we might be able to get ahead of time?
There's Lake Casita by Ojai, that is private RV on the lake and is pretty nice and quiet that time of year. We might want to investigate as well. It's close to Ojai for antiqueing, or we can hop onto Ventura Harbor, and do a one day scenic cruise to Channel Islands for a short hike as well.
Many options to choose from, I guess.
I'll just have to start practice on my towing and parking, so I can bring my "home" and my cat with me next time.

That could work for me too, and it would be so much fun to see everyone again! I think El Capitain is closed until May or June, but there's that swanky place just across the freeway. Can't remember the name--Cosa Nostra, Cosa Bella, Costa Brava?
Meredith? Are you with us? Have any ideas?
Cachuma was fun and convenient. Having fearless site-nabbers arrive early seemed to work out pretty well.
Refugio might be a reservation challenge for a weekend.
What about Pismo Beach?
Hope you're all enjoying this beautiful fall weather, although I'd sure love a little rain sometime soon.
Take care!
Janet
Oops. Missed Cat's post. Lake Casitas sounds like it could be good. Afraid Malibu is too far for me.

The private campground near El Capitan Beach is called "Ocean Mesa".
They are across Hwy 101 from the beach but I think there is an underpass so you can walk to the beach. It's a nice clean park with a pool but not very "woodsy". Lots of sites packed in. (I drove through but didn't stay)
The rates are $65/night through March and then go up to $85 in April.
They have a web site if you want to check it out.

Ocean Mesa! Yes that's the one I was thinking of. We stayed at El Cap. State Beach last year and checked it out. You can walk under the freeway, but it's a looong walk to the RV area. (The closer private campground, which also owns Ocean Mesa, only has cabins and yurts.)
And it really does have zero atmosphere. Very new, with baby trees and shrubs.
Also way expensive. Shall we check that one off the list?

Lake Casita turns out to be a Public Campground which is the water resource for Ojai Valley. So my guess is that it's city or county. They do have group reservation with hookups and other hook up sites we can plan for. Here is the website: Lake Casitas Recreation Area Camping and Public Use Fees
Price is reasonable and has a lots of space between site and quite woodsy.

I would prefer to stay out of the LA Basin... Including Malibu. Although parking next to Mathew Mcconehey (sp?) would be cool. I hate large cities!
Somewhere around Santa Barbara would be nice. I liek the Ojai idea, Antiquing and a harbour cruise sounds great. I would prefer a reservation type place so we can be sure we are all together.

Lake Casitas might be doable. I just checked out their web site and it looks like there are tons of spots especially in March.
The group sites are too big for our group but I don't think we'd have any trouble getting spots together in the regular camping areas.
Has anyone been there?

Hi Michelle, A couple other CenCal ideas would be Morro Bay State Park that now has site specific reservations, and San Simeon State Park. Hope you Ladies have fun!

Lake Casitas does take reservation 6 months in advance for all their sites. If we think we have min. of 5 to 10, we might be able to get the group site all for us.
Any words from Pismo Beach area, anyone?
Wheel Interest (Carol), we'll love to have you join us as well. May be one day we can also do a caravan to the Great Lake and meet you too! Bam, what do you think?

Haven't been to Casitas~But have visited Ojai, which is a great little arty town, with lots of galleries, shops, and hiking trails. And I do believe a winery or two...
Because it's so isolated,it can get into trouble if it's a rainy winter (floods, closed roads, etc.) but at the rate we're going with this drought thing, that will probably be a non-issue.
Thanks for the ideas Steve! Any chance Jan can join us this time?

Pismo is a little close for me. I'd rather go somewhere else if possible but I would come if we decide to go there. I have stayed there and it is next to the beach (dogs on leash only-they do patrol) but again you are very packed in with lots of sites in a smallish space.
I'm leaning toward Ojai...

I like the Ojai idea. Is ther anyone close enough to check out the other Campgrounds listed to see if I can get my "monster" in?
Carpineria, El Capitan, Refugio, Jalama Beach?
Meredith? Meredith? Meredith?

whoooo weeee!
I'm here, I'm here! Count me in!
Lake Casitas is a very nice campground. Very clean and well kept. We've spent a lot of time there - Jack's Mom owned the snack bar at the marina for many moons - but we've never camped there.
The best camping areas with hookups are, if I remember correctly, Fox and Bass. Don't know anything about the group areas though, they are probably great.
Yippee!
