How little did I know that my above words were prophetic..
we are 90 miles west of Chicago and last Wednesday we got THIRTEEN inches of snow.
Gary went up on our roof at the shop, which is flat, to check the drain and make sure it wasn't iced over. He then attempted to remove ice and snow from the coping around the edge of the roof, and his ladder slipped out from under him. He rode the ladder down the side of the buiding.. about 18 feet, and his feet were stuck in the ladder. He hit the ground very hard, and the only LUCKY part is that it was feet first instead of head first.

He shattered his left heel and sprained his right ankle, and, for those of you who have met Gary, you know I can't carry him, around.

We have to go to an orthopedic specialist.. not just anyone works on heels, but we can't do anything at all until the swelling goes down, and it's considerable.

We have pretty much been told that it's not repairable. The hospital sent the injury on CD from a CAT scan tot he orthopedic doc,, and it looks like his heel is in a minimum of six pieces. thery actually think it's best to let it all calcify together.

I'm glad that Moraine is in June.. he;ll be moving around well by then.

I AM worried about the Steve Earle Concert tickets we have for March 8th,
and don't you think he could have FINISHED shovelling the 13 inches of snow bEFORE he did his swan dive??

Tell Gary we are pulling for him, and hope he is ready to go in June.

Take good care of him!

give my best to your man.

no back pain from this crash, i hope?

falls that are significant enough to fracture the heel...

often cause vertebral compression fx as well,

and these often get over looked initially, with so much foot pain.

looks like it's time to train the pooches go up on the roof

cheers

RaChelle, why bother when you know that more snow is just going to be coming along later this week. Gary, I'm sorry to hear this happened. Take care of yourself and keep your own own counsel on honey-do lists. I'll gather some Pennington County testimonials about 'man rules' and send some extra batteries for the remote (can't help you on the lack of cable content tho'...)

RaChelle,

Give our best to Gary... this winter has been a bear for this part of the country. I have to say I am sick of it. Take care of Gary... and yourself. Leave the snow where it falls, it will disappear in time... it always does (for a couple of months atleast)

Jack -- So far this is what I have for the portal page rotating rally link image. Recognize Steve's Caravanner? They've got to be exactly 160 x 160 pixels. We'll see what Janet says.
