No coincidence... I tried to get him to come last year, and they were already committed. Scott S is the treasurer of the VAC, and lives just a few blocks from me. He's a very nice guy and will be a welcomed addition to the group (unlike ME!). Tracy: Be gentle with him. It's his first time, OK?

Current long range forecasts (which we all know can change on a dime) indicated low to mid 80s during the days and mid 60s at night. By this Sunday, we should have a bit more accurate forecasts, but Sue is right, pack accordingly..... we've had hot ones, cold ones, wet ones and dry ones.

The records for the area the weekend of this rally have been as low as 45 and as high as 101! Though I don't think we saw exactly either end of the spectrum, I think we were close a few times on both ends.

Jack, add us to the food list. Sue has decided to bring a couple 9X13 pans of Banana Trifle for Saturday night's dessert.
I'd try to explain what it is, but she says everbody knows what it is and I'm being an idiot.
Not being dog owners we've gathering up some neat theme related props. Bet my dog's bigger than yours.

OK. Food. Here's how it goes.

Saturday night is pot luck night and really won't change from years past. We ask that you bring something you can share with 4-6 people. Normally every one brings their own meat dish (for your personal consumption, you do not need to share this). Dinner will be at 6PM, so make sure you are ready to eat at that time. Don't start cooking at 6 or you will be late.

We will gather at site A07 which gives us plenty of room. I'll need some volunteers to help me move picnic tables to the site. Those of you in sites around A07, if you don't mind we will borrow your tables at about 5:15. We will bring them back after dinner. If you have a spare or throw away table cloth, we can always use those.

Your choices can be salads, vege's, potatoes, rice, noodles, casseroles, etc. You can bring a desert if you choose rather than the items above. What ever you feel comfortable with. I'll start the list and everyone please post what you plan on bringing. I'll keep the list up to date and near the end of the thread. That way we won't have everyone bringing the same item. It's worked ok this way for 5 years running and we always have a ton of food so no one will walk away hungry.

Saturday night food list.

jcanavera--BBQ baked beans
Flying Toast--Chinese salad (honey-sesame dressing) and some kind of dessert
Marta5--Fruit salad
maccamper--6 Pepper Slaw
Gael79--Broccoli Salad
Tikihut--Grilled Potatoes & Sweet Potatoes
Overlander64--Donuts or Ice Cream
Scott S--Jello and Fruit Salad
Silvertwinkie--mac and cheese
till--home made cookies
woodedareas--brownies
eikel1we--grape salad
Tom Nugler--Banana Trifle
CanoeStream--stacked enchiladas

Hmmm....serious sugar load....Diabetics, pack extra insulin!!!

Jack & gang: Sorry we will not be able to join you this year. It sounds like another fun weekend. We are in PA for another month working on a construction project. We've been here for 1 month so far and enjoying staying in the AS. Here is a picture that I just took a couple nights ago at sunset. Beautiful country here.
Hope to make it to the rally next year.

Well for some us we are a week or less before we arrive at Moraine View. Weather initially looks reasonable. I do see showers on Friday but good weather on Saturday. At this point remember that in conjunction with our "Goin' to the Dogs" theme, we will be doing hot dogs over at our site Friday afternoon. I'll start grilling them around 4:30 or so. I'll serve 'um till they are gone. Everyone drive safe, watch your speeds, Illinois fuel ain't cheap!

All of the sites are back in. There will be enough of us around after dark to help guide you in if you want help. Make sure you come in with full water tanks and empty grey and black. There are two disposal stations. One just after you get into the park and another at the end of our loop next to the registration area. There are a couple of fresh water spigots that we can stretch hoses to in case you run short.

Those of you not having reservations can still come, provided you get there Thursday evening or earlier Friday and claim one of the first come first served sites.

I'll be getting around to everyone to provide you a weekend newsletter and agenda. Open house starts at noon Saturday.

Remember Illinois State Parks are alcohol free, so no beer, wine etc. in open view. You will get ticketed if they catch you.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jack
