Saturday night is pot luck night and really won't change from years past. We ask that you bring something you can share with 4-6 people. Normally every one brings their own meat dish (for your personal consumption, you do not need to share this). Dinner will be at 6PM, so make sure you are ready to eat at that time. Don't start cooking at 6 or you will be late.
We will gather at site A07 which gives us plenty of room. I'll need some volunteers to help me move picnic tables to the site. Those of you in sites around A07, if you don't mind we will borrow your tables at about 5:15. We will bring them back after dinner. If you have a spare or throw away table cloth, we can always use those.
Your choices can be salads, vege's, potatoes, rice, noodles, casseroles, etc. You can bring a desert if you choose rather than the items above. What ever you feel comfortable with. I'll start the list and everyone please post what you plan on bringing. I'll keep the list up to date and near the end of the thread. That way we won't have everyone bringing the same item. It's worked ok this way for 5 years running and we always have a ton of food so no one will walk away hungry.
Saturday night food list.
jcanavera--BBQ baked beans
Flying Toast--Chinese salad (honey-sesame dressing) and some kind of dessert
Marta5--Fruit salad
maccamper -- Six Pepper Slaw
I will now demonstrate my culinary ignorance. My wife makes a cold Broccoli salad (Broccoli, Sun Flower Seeds, dried Cranberries, sweet red onion, cider vinegar and mayonaise). Sounds like an awful combination, she had to talk me into trying it. I really like it, so put us down for the Broccoli Salad...
More than happy to help move tables, clean up etc.
Thanks,

My plan is to setup my mini-donut making machine to make donuts for desert -- it should be capable of making six dozen mini donuts per hour. I am going to give it a dry run this coming weekend to be sure that it is up to the task. If this doesn't work out, I will bring the ice cream freezers and make French Vanilla ice cream.

OK now I have to admit that I have NO IDEA what to bring for food for the potluck.
I have a VAGUE idea.. especially since adding a puppy to the family this week.
I am too old to be awakened at 4:30 a.m. with SHARP puppy teeth who REFUSE to go back to sleep and have to get up that early to go out and do the peepee poopoo and then root around, play, eat, terrorize everything in the house, pee on the floor after we just came back in from outside, attempt to eat a huge spindle of blank cd-rs.. accept redirection EVERY FIVE SECONDS and then fall asleep in the wrong dog basket, in effect peeing off the older dog.
Is there a recipe for a 7 week old Jack Russell??
HA HA HA

Our new addition, Baxter, as of this past Feb, is a rat/jack russel mix (maybe a couple of additional breeds too in him).
The only thing I've found is time and patience. He was about 1 year old when we adopted him from the shelter, so if its any indication, you have at least 11-12 months before they get into a solid routine. At about 1 year old, it took about 60 days for the routines to be formed, but the bond between both terriers (Charlie, our first) was almost instantaneous.

That is so nice to know! Congrats on your rat adoption!
We didn't buy this pup... we were offered her because we have had good success with our rescue, Deafanie, who was a VERY difficult placement.... she had many failures before she arrived here with us at 16 months old three years ago.... and many people spent too little time, each, ruining her.
The baby is deaf, too.
and it surely is a loooong time until she settles.

Let me rephrase that. They weren't HER failures, they were human failures from people who didn't understand deafness Or terrier-ness.
The problems we have had have NOT been because of her deafness.
She's a terrier first, deaf second. But it's still quite a combo.
Having this little baby makes me feel sad because I know that Deafanie was this cute and innocent when she started out.

Whoops! I forgot to delete Scott from the TBD to his assigned site! Thanks!
For some of us we are almost 2 weeks away from leaving for Moraine. Make sure you check out the food list for Saturday night. At this point who knows what the weather will be. They are forecasting the upper 40's tonight in STL. Hard to believe it's still getting that cool at night....although I remember a few evenings at Moraine that by end of movie time, blankets were being shared and that campfire seemed to be the only thing that kept us from frostbite!

We know that P29, P30, & P31 were reserved prior and those folks are not associated with us. So the reservable sites in the immediate area include P24, P27, & P28 (the 27,28,29 may be reserved by others), A14 and A15. Now keep in mind these sites are unaccounted for in my records so you might want to call Moraine View to verify that these sites are still available.
It looks like we have a very good chance in selling out, so again if you are on the fence you need to make a commitment. If you cancel, your only loss will be $5 of your deposit. There are other reservable sites although they will not be as close to the main group of us. Also note that across from the A sites (in the teens), there are first come first served sites. You probably will have to arrive on Thursday or early Friday to get one of these.
Jack
