flamingo_kid1 had posted about a BBQ on Thursday. Is anyone planning on attending? I will host if anyone is interested, so just PM me.

Does this campground have tables at each site, or do I need to get one before I go?

A "little glitch"

This is going to be cutting it close. I had finished installing new axles and disc brakes about a week ago and yesterday the Actibrake system turned itself on while disconnected from the TV and would not shut off. Wierd. Actibrake is sending me a new unit which I will install Thursday night. I am counting on everything going well so we can attend the rally. We should arrive around 6pm Friday. We are definitely looking forward to our first rally.

Sunset -- Oooh! Hope to see you there

Steve -- Yes, a table and fire pit at every site. See Jack's http://www.airforums.com/photos/brow...c=3091&userid= -- doesn't look like much for grates. I don't recall any.

We won't arrive until Friday. I'd love to but...

There are BBQ pits and picnic tables at each site. It looks like we'll be arriving earlier than you guys. We'll start a nice fire, have our tripod, and anyone that wants to can just come over and cook on it. Bring your own food :-)

Well we've changed our plans just a bit. We've decided to pop in on Wednesday, maybe, that is if we drive the full distance on Wednesday. It's about 400 miles +/- for us and we will have our grand-daughter of 3 years. Not sure how she is going to do on such a long trip. If it feels like it's too much in one day we might just stay overnight somewhere on the way. See ya all there!

plans change

We are not going to be able to attend the rally as we are having problems with the brakes. Thought I had it under control, but need to take it in to have it fixed, and can't get in until next week.
Hopefully next year.

Beginning Count Down

Luna is safely home from storage, no evidence of any more mice, and her systems are all a go.. which is pretty darn good for being FORTY YEARS OLD this year!

I'll pack her up tonight and we'll hit the road in the morning :-)

Michael,

I just bought a polaroid HDTV from walmart at $200...perhaps I will return it and buy your off of you. Sounds like a better unit since it can run off 12 Volt.

Startin' the 600 mile meander...

I'm outa here -- we'll be celebrating the Mississippi bluff country on our way to Le Roy. Hope to make a state park between Winona and La Crosse tonight. Then Mississippi Palisades S.P. near Galena, IL, tomorrow night. Safe travels to everyone and see y'all Friday!

2007 Moraine View Forums Rally -- Thursday Travel May Be Stormy

Greetings All!

I am just a little over 55 miles from LeRoy, and our local weather forecast is calling for travel difficulties for high profile vehicles tomorrow. We have been told to expect strong gusty winds with gusts up to 50 MPH. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Thursday; and the advisory indicates that travel may be particularly difficult on East/West roads.

To make matters a little more interesting, one of our most trusted local weather sources is advising that there is rather high probability of strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon to late evening.

Work has stranded me in Central Illinois a bit longer than expected. I was to pick up my Minuet from its winter storage near Carbondale, IL today; but we are still working to meet our last deadline for our Yearbook so I won't be able to leave to get the trailer until tomorrow. That means that I will be arriving on Friday rather than Thursday -- must call the park and see if I can adjust my reservation.

My tentative plan is to bring garden pea salad made from an old family recipe that includes a number of other seasonal vegetable.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Kevin

Yep the wind will be out of the southwest so I'll have a pretty good tail wind until I exit the Interstate to head east to Le Roy.

I just checked the NOAA site and they are forcasting severe thunderstorms as the cold front comes through tomorrow night. Looks like it will be coming through between 10-12 midnight.

Looks like once we clear tomorrow night, the weekend will be simply delightful.

Is it safe to pull a trailer with gusts upto 50mph? I had a simialr situation in New Mexico and it didn't seem to have that much effect on us.

we had a lot of wind coming back from Colorado.. because of our bullet shape, we sailed through when other SOBs were being whipped all about.

But we do believe it is KEY to lower your speed.

And don't get smacked by a whipping semi or SOB!

Rain rain go away.

I am kinda worried about "Severe Thunderstorms) especially since my unit is anything but rainproof. The driving wind may add enough force to really push it into my trailer as well.

Is there a laundrymat close by that we can dry our stuff out at? We will be using all the towels we have to keep the trailer from flodding.

There WAS one right in Leroy.. we've used it before. I'm not sure it's still there, but it probably is. But that was last year. There's always hanging them out and "roughing it. " :-)

It all depends on how good your sway control is, how fast you are traveling, and the wind direction. I've pulled in some 35 mph cross winds with even higher gusts and the Classic has obendiently stayed behind my van, without even a hint of sway.

Most of my trip will have this wind at my back and where I will be in a direct cross wind, it will be on a lightly traveled 2 lane road for about 30 miles. So we will see.

Jack

You guys should have a blast. We are sorry we won't be able to attend.

About the wind, I was towing from Chicago to Kankakee the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend and it was VERY windy. In the just about three years I've been towing, I experienced more "movement" from my set-up than ever before.

Todays winds promise to meet or exceed that.

Keep in mind I am still towing with the Eurovan so that is most likely a factor too.

My advice is to drop your speed by at least 5 mph, stay in the right lane, both hands on wheel. Stop and rest, stretch your legs. I found it a little tiring under these conditions so the breaks helped. Go at a speed that you are comfortable with, even if it means getting to LeRoy an hour later.

Just take it easy and let the world pass you by.

Have a wonderful time and have a safe trip.

Jonathan
