Hey all
We just got home from St.Augustine.We had a blast on this one.Met a great family that were our next door neighbors for the week.I know it is off topic but I can not resist this one. This family is great. The most down to earth people you could ever meet.I dont know if we will ever meet them again for a while because they are on the road traveling but here is a pic for you all.Our little one Breanna and there Daughter had a great time on Halloween and did not stop playing forever.I am glad they met each other.Mabey there will be a few kids at the Get-together for Breanna to meet also.

I found RVacation in Selma NC and several KOA's also if I get to the SC boarder I understand South of the Border has sites.
It looks like RVacation is the better choice, only a mile off the road.
Any opinions on these?

We checked out the South of the Border RV sites several weeks ago. We didn't spend the night there as it was too early in the day. The campground looked nice and clean and the price was right (around $20). It is convenient for overnight as it is right on I-95.

Note to Lipets
Lipets-
If your coming directly to Santa Rosa Beach from New York, check out routing yourself through Atlanta. You will save almost 100 miles, and stay off of a good portion of the dreaded I-95. From Atlanta to here is a pleasant drive (6 hours) via I-85/I-185 to Columbus; US 431 to Dothan, US 231 to
I-10 west to exit 96 at Ponce deLeaon, SR 81 south to SR 20 west to US 331 south to US 98 west to CR 30-A, left to Tops'l (1 mile). I know it sounds a little complex, but it's really a nice drive on Airstream friendly roadways that are in excellent repair.

Drive
That is part of the way we sorta went when going to Georgia. When going to Atlanta though make sure you take the outer highway and not the one that goes straight thru.It is a mean one when going thru.Been there and never want to do it again.

Justin is 12, almost 13. He may love it or may stay hold up in the trailer the entire time. You never know at his age. Freddie is 9 so in dog years he is 63.

That's worth thinking about, I need to look at it on a map.
Thanks

I go through Atlanta a lot on I-85. The rules are to avoid Atlanta during rush hour (both AM and PM) at aLL cost. At these times, even the loop (I-285) dosen't help much. Going through at any other time or on weekends, just take the Connector (I-75/I-85) right through downtown. Also keep in mind that with two people on board, you can use the diamond lane, even with an Airstream in tow.

There is one other item to keep in mind when coming in from the east. Santa Rosa Beach is in Central Standard Time. This is an item to remenber when planning your arrival time.

Atlanta Traffic
I have to agree with all the previous posts, Atlanta traffic is really really bad. Going and coming home from the Georgia Fall campout was not a pleasure through Atlanta. Sorry, if you call Atlanta home - I've been there on business and have enjoyed the city - but that traffic is by far the worst in the south in my opinion. It was white knuckle the whole time on the 285 loop. Problem is , there is no acceptable way around Atlanta going to some of the places I want to go. Yes, lots of back roads - but the area is so over developed that there are masses of small jams on the back roads - and lights for ever.
No advice here, just past nightmares of a breakdown and that traffic........

Ah... so you are the nice family in Rich L.'s blog! It's almost like sooner or later we all get to meet from this forum.

last note on ATL traffic...
we live here and HATE it! don't plan on hitting atlanta between 4PM-7PM... and don't expect anyone to let you over a lane, even with your blinker on, and a wheel over the white line. Use 285 for sure. if you're coming down 75 go west, 85 go east... the bit between those 2 highways on the "top end" as they call it in all the reports is horrible. 285 doesn't have the ride share lane, so don't bother working your way left... you'll never get back right. ha!
looking forward to this! we'll be bringing our 9 month old, and 2 adorable Boston Terriers. what's the weather usually like down there in Jan? is it still bike-able? or do we need to bundle up?
