What a crowd.....
Thirty-Three (33) and counting - 4 weeks to go - two major holidays and we are there. Come on ALANSD - join up. Lookie there 1000+ posts and 14 times that viewing - this rally is shaping up to be a good one.
Got to go get a new propane flex-hose tomarrow - now I know why the port tank was dry - A LEAK. Keeping the heat on at night - just enough to keep the freezing temperatures out of Desi. Just not positive about my winterizing.

Redneck Snow
Anyone get snow last night?
We did in Dixie!
Burrrr...was it cold!
Welcome to the machine...
Stayed up all night pumping it out.
I fell asleep about an hour around 5am...dumped over a foot in this area.
Sun is up...traffic is now starting to slow down and galk.
Wow...over 1000 posts
Adding one to try and show depth...

Pole is the snow machine.
It is a compbination of compressed air and pressure washer.
Ice on front of MH is when air line freezes up and just water sprays out = no snow.
Got a good test of heaters in MH, as I used it to take my breaks during the 'dusting'.
It was toasty warm inside.

OMG You MADE your own snow! It just didn't register with me seeing the winter wonderland. Wish I could see and hear those gawkers. I never saw a snow machine, just thought it kinda fell from heaven or grew on trees. I guess you'll never need to worry about having a white Christmas.
Anyone want me to fill the freezer up with geniune Michigan snow and bring it? We could have a snowball fight.
This rally is going to be mighty interesting, I can tell.

Jim, My "pot" should arrive this week and I've ordered some Tasso and Sausage. I'm going to try out the recipe for Jambalaya on my relatives over the holidays. The more I read about Jambalaya, the more interesting it becomes. Evidently this was a dish that started in the 1700's to be shared after church. The word Jambalaya is derived from the Spanish word for ham - Jamon. I look forward to some intoxicating discussions over which is best with Jambalaya, beer or white wine!

All you folks worry'n bout snow - Hee Haw - I grew up in Nebraska and we looked forward to it. Why, we would haul our sleds up to the top of the roof and tobogan down the drift in back of the house. No school - It was like a holiday.
Listen - We are getting pretty big here on this "lets just do it rally" and I was wondering if we should hire one of the local Bluegrass groups to come and entertain us one night. Just a thought

You are doing your research. I will tell you beer my wife will tell you wine. The batch I did followed the recipe exactly , even to the brand of Tasso and Sausage. Can't wait to hear what you think.
I am sure you know about seasoning the pot before use. What size pot are you getting ?

Jambalaya
You guys have Cathy and I being totally unfamiliar with this food curious we did a little Google'n
History
Jambalaya originates from Louisiana's rural, low-lying swamp country where crawfish (aka "mudbugs"), shrimp, oysters, alligator, duck, turtle, boar, venison and other wild meats were readily available. Any variety or combination of meats, including chicken or turkey may be used to make jambalaya. The Gulf Coast area's geographical basin (including Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Louisiana) also provided an exceptionally nutritive soil and conducive environment in which rice flourished. Thus the combination of the two foods was quite natural.
The first printed reference to "jambalaya" occurred in 1872, and the 1900 edition of "The Picayune's Creole Cook Book" called it a "Spanish-Creole dish." Jambalaya is also very similar to the Spanish dish Paella.
The origin of the name "jambalaya" is uncertain, and there are many theories surrounding its etymology. Prominent among them is the combination of the French "jambon" meaning ham, the French article "à la" meaning "in the style of" and "ya", thought by some to be of West African origin meaning rice, though "ya-ya" is also an old Creole patois phase meaning "everybody's talking at once."
Alternate etymologies of the word point to the combining of the Creole words "Jhamba" (gift) and "laya" (rice). The name came from the plantation slave meals, which were often a pot of rice (or rice and beans). The slaves considered it a treat to find a "gift" of some meat (normally a left over from the owners meal or a table scrap) in with the rice. This is the current etymology being taught by the St. Louis School of Cooking.
The Dictionary of American Food and Drink offers this creative old wives' tale about the origin of the word "jambalaya": Late one evening a traveling gentleman stopped by a New Orleans inn which had little food remaining from the evening meal. The traveller instructed the cook "Jean, balayez!" or "Jean, sweep something together!" in the local dialect. The guest pronounced the resulting hodge-podge dish as "Jean balayez."
In 1968, Louisiana Governer John J. McKeithen proclaimed Gonzales, Louisiana the Jambalaya Capital of the World. Every Spring, the annual Jambalaya Festival is held in Gonzales.
Jambalaya is also used as a main dish in many MREs (Meals, Ready-to-Eat) for the military.
I hope to find out what we've been missing
