12v Evaporative Cooler for BM
Hey all...
We have been attending BM for several years now in our trusty "Little Dilly" 1969 Tradewind. We have designed a great swamp cooler (evaporative cooler) for use in the hot, dry Black Rock Desert climate. If anyone is interested in it, let me know. I can send directions to individuals or to the group as a whole.
Now is the time to start getting prepared...
Peace,
Jim

Corral
OK, getting down to brass tacs here. If no one objects, the camp will be demarked with the square reflectors at the corners and at the mandatory fire/poop truck opening, with the yellow rope (we got 1,200 feet of it) on the ground from marker to marker.
The round reflectors will have a flag denoting the Airstream length for that parking spot. Just pull up to the reflector and put it at the driver's side front bumper. Then pull out the marker and return to me.
Dawings of layout to follow, based on the Airstream lengths that have been provided previously. The strategy of getting there early, throwing down the markers, and having volunteers take the corner parking spots will be included with the parking layout drawing (in a couple of days).

Zep:
When you get to burning man you will have to get into the body painting that will be going on. You can get painted the same colors as an airstream.

New layout
Here's a simple arrangement 200'x170' and all rigs are assumed to be 22' wide with awnings and tiedown ropes. As you can see, only 22 rigs fit in this space.
If you do a little magic in the corners, you can get an additional one or two rigs in the same space.
Arrivals ought to be fairly easy. Very few restrictions on which ones must fill first. The will be some issues if we pack the corners.
Things to note:
1. One entrance so that the honey truck can get near the dump valves for everyone. This may require any shade tents or other inside setups to be taken down for a few hours on Thursday.
2. Due to turn radiuses, etc., positions 7, 8, 13, and 14 need to be filled first. Just drive straight in across the boundary rope. Positions 6 and 12 might also need to fill early.
3. All other positions can come in through the entrance or drive straight across, depending on how the court fills up. Obviously, 17 needs to fill before 16.
4. Everyone can drive straight out to depart or in case of emergency, unless the corners are packed. We need a community consensus on how to handle the corners.
5. We can get 20 rigs in a space only slightly larger, 225'x170'. I don't know if there are any size restrictions that the Black Rock City administration might impose. We might get slapped if we block off a large space and it doesn't fill promptly.
6. Evaporation ponds can be placed in the spaces between tow vehicles.
7. The second arrangement above provides space for 6-33', 7-29', and 5-21'. This is clearly not a precise restriction on size.
8. Center Court is pretty big, 77'x157'. The shade tent, as shown, can probably remain up even when the honey buck truck shows up. There is plenty of room for a large truck to back in along each side.
9. Spots 9-16-17 and 1-2-18 form small quads. If anyone is interested in nesting with their buds, they should think about making this known (as if we might dain to reserve spots, not). Oops, check with the boss, ARTSTREAM.

Hey, man ("hey, man" pronounced in the Bob Dylan laconic style, of course), I did all the body painting I ever needed to do back in Raleigh in 1968. Sorta like I drank all the beer I ever needed to drink in 'Nam in 1971. Onward and upward to other things! Like red wine and a well-equipped shop!

early control
For purposes of early control of the space, this arrangement might be an improvement. Parking spots 1-8-15 could be occupied first. I'll take one of them--other volunteers? Now 7-8 form a small quad. If they is a request for another quad, 14 could be reversed. The only issue for that arrangement is ease of exit for 14.
It occurs to me that someone could take 16 early, then pull forward to allow one additional rig, should that be necessary. The down side of spots 1 and 17 are that they might not be accessible to the honey bucket.

Nice job mapping.
Did we decide
where will this be located...
or where are we attempting to squat?

No one voiced an objection when I proposed about half-way out between 2:30 and 3:30. If that area is full when we get there, I don't know whether going towards 4:00 or 2:00 is better.

I use both as well . I have 16 sf of solar panels & 150 AH of batteries . This runs everything but the AC for at least four days which is the longest I have gone without external charging. I have a Honda 3000 for when I want AC or to run tools & the like.

This photo map should give you a good idea. Upon entering, turn right, go around to the 3:00 main lane, then turn left and go inwards, looking, looking, looking.
Hey, does everyone have an FRS radio? Do we all know what those are? About $30 each. We need to establish an Airstream frequency and code...
BTW, the big porta-potty installation was just inward of where the green line crosses the red 3:00 lane in this photo. Thank G the prevailing wind put the 2007 Burnstream Court upwind! We will pay attention to this when we select the spot, right?

Pre Ralling point
Great work on the layout Roger, roger.
We need to firm up on a pre rallying meeting point on say that weekend. I vote for a campground for a last reliable H2O fill-up for those coming from long distance.
There is a park located:
Best Western Fernely
1405 E Newlands Dr
Fernley NV 89408
(775)575-6776
Pyramid lake is also attractive, but no h2o.
Ideas?

crap, just lost my entire post, so here it is again.
I don't know what the highway queue is like Sunday evening (for the crowd that wants to enter at 12:01 AM) or early Monday (for the crowd that wants to start off in the light.
I think we need 4-5 members to join up and get in line together so that we have some semblence of a group when we stake out the spot. I think that means joining up in Fernley.
These are the originating locations (not totally current) of our group. Are Burnstreamers who are coming from Reno and Southern CA entering from Fernley or from highway 445 through Sparks and past Pyramid Lake? I previously suggested Pyramid Lake as a gathering point because that puts you further up the highway, but Fernley is certainly more straightforward.
So far the suggestions are (more are welcomed):
1. Camp in Fernley Sunday night and go in Monday morning -- TGU
2. Gather in Fernly Sunday evening and proceed to BM Gate for midnight entry -- Dr Quark (get used to it)
3. ???others???
Does anyone know what the queue is like Sunday evening? Monday morning? What if we got in line Sunday evening, had a little BBQ in line, took a nap, got up at midnight, proceeded to the general target area, took anothe nap, claimed our spot in the early light, took another nap until it got hot?
BTW, everyone needs to be familiar with the marshalling plan, because there ain't no baby-sittin' marshallers appointed (yet).
Dr Quark
PS--A Quad might be square, but I think it only needs four straight sides, as in rectangle...
