Water heater valve sticking.

Have a 91 25' classic 1000 and had to beat on my WH valve to start. Tried a few days later and it started on it's own. Any suggestions as to what needs replacing or how to determine/test/etc. Thanks. Note: posted earlier message when I asked the same question about my furnace. Turns out it wasn't the furnace.

check all the electrical connections first.

pull the plug on the module and make sure it is clean, then check the black ground wire for tightness.

i found my ground wire loose and it was causing an intermittant start up.
