Tank Recertification Location in Florida

I have the original Worthington tanks for my 1973 Excella. They are stamped 3-73 and I'm sue they have the original valves. Is there anywhere in the Tampa Bay area that recertifies and changes the valves on these tanks so I can continue to use them? Replacements will be very expensive as they have the floating guages as well.

Just hoping - I've already ordered replacements with a new regulator and flexible tubing.

Hi defelice--Most major suppliers of propane, like Suburban, will install new valves and recertify the tanks for under $20 each, plus propane. Call a few listed in your yellow pages to find out who does it, and how much.--Frank S

Hey Firefly,

I did find someone who says they will recertify and replace the old valves. I'm leary since my tanks are vintage 1973 with a guage. I'm hoping to take them tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

They're here in Pinellas county.just south of Clearwater - home of the Scientologists.

Hi defelice--I have the same Worthington 30lb aluminum tanks, and they are also originally stamped 3-73, which I guess means March 1973. I have had them re-certified 3 times, with new valves installed on the 3rd re-certification. Good luck tomorrow.--Frank S

Dan at Bob's Service and Gas will recertify my tanks. It will cost $104 which includes both 30# tanks being filled and new OPD valves without guages (not available). The propane is listed $21 for 30# so the valve and recert is $31 per tank. They'll be good for 5 years. Sure is a lot cheaper that $150 ea plus shipping for new.

Now, all I have to do is polish. Pictures to follow.
