Regulator

I replaced my ancient LP regulator with a new Cavagna dual bottle, auto changeover model. I will be using a single bottle much of the time to free up space on the tongue. Will the regulator work ok with just one bottle? Should I cap the unused fitting to keep out dirt, etc?

It should work fine. The regulator relies on the pressure of the full tank to open, no tank, no pressure, it won't open.

Do what you can to keep the unused side clean and free of dirt as you are planning to do.

The regulator should shut off the gas to the open line but I would look for a cap just for safety and protection of the treads.

Yes it will work with one bottle and should give you an empty bottle indication, but then again you would already know that when the stove, frig, hot water heater, or heater went off.
