Refrigerator cooling

On my '86 Sovereign the freezer works fine but the frige doesn't want to cool much more than 50 degrees. It also doesn't want to stay working on propane while moving. I tried someones suggestion of placing a furnace filter inside the vent screen while traveling, but it didn't seem to help.

I can't help you on how to fix the fridge, but just to suggest that, in the meantime, you travel with those frozen blue gel pacs (or freeze water in sturdy plastic bottles.) Then before you leave your site, turn off the propane and put the frozen gel pacs amongst your food in the fridge, picnic-cooler style. We do this all the time. When the fridge is turned on at night, we refreeze the gel pacs. Then we rotate them into the food for travel or during boondocking trips when we want to save on the battery (fridge fan.) We've never had spoiled food or warm beer with this system.

You may want to have the propane pressure checked in your trailer. It should be 11" water column. If it is not, and is low, the flame may not be burning with enough heat to operate the refrigerator properly. If you have an old regulator, they are inexpensive <$50 and a 28 year old one owes you nothing. Life of them is generally 15 to 20 years in my experience.

Just a random comment on freezing blue packs at night and using them to cool during the day, and repeat. My freezer is almost always full of food and there is no room to put additional things in it to freeze overnight. So, I don't consider that to be an option, at least the way I use my refrigerator.
