Recertify 1998 gauged tanks in Austin area

Ok.. looks like I have the Excella dual tanks with "gauges" in my 1999..which I would like to have report properly to the Status panel.

Where do you think we can get them done in Austin area?

Should be able to get them done at any larger propane distributor. We had to have ours done last summer while traveling in Colorado Springs. It's a simple visual inspection and with aluminum tanks it should be really that simple.

Original requester asked how to get tanks properly reported on control center. Title implies he was looking for re certification dealership location?

You seem to want both report to control center and recertification. The relevant question is whether OPD valves are present on these cylinders.

To tell the difference, check this image of an OPD valve:

You won't be able to see the bottom of the valve on your cylinders, of course, but check the shape of the handle at the top: It's got a triangle-like shape.

Now examine an earlier, non-OPD valve:

Note the tell-tale shape of the valve handle. Not OPD.

The handle is just a marker, of course. The real business behind OPD valves is that stuff below level, inside the tank. It's a float valve.

If you've got OPD valves, and your cylinders are in reasonable shape, then you should be able to get away with a visual recertification. They examine your cylinders, add a new recertification date, and you're done.

I typically go to Pflugerville Propane for refills, they can also install new OPD valves if necessary, and I believe they can recertify tanks. I have a pair of 30# Worthingtons that I need to take over there, after they're polished of course!

Not sure on getting them to report properly, my trailer is way too old to have that functionality. I've had some work done at RV Outlet Mall in Georgetown, they might be able to do it. Or Crestview, or any of the other RV specific dealers/repair shops, you could give them a call anyway.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I have OPD valves.
I would also like to have the tanks recertified.
Also, would like to get the gauges properly reporting to the status panel.
Asking too much? Nah. I know this is place to get answers.

Ok. Spoke to Trico Propane on Hwy 95, Circleville, TX. They are just South of intersection 29 and 95. The Recertify is free. 512-352-8500.

The outfit we buy propane from in Taos also does a free recertification (5 year, visual). As a courtesy, though, I always have them fill the cylinder as well.
