Propane valve leak

Just got our 71 Safari a week ago and now am gradually checking out all the systems. Have not tried to light any gas appliances yet. However, yesterday when I opened one of the tanks, a white liquid spewed out of the top gasket of the requlator. I closed the tank valve and stopped right there. Didn't try anything else. Is the gasket bac? Should the regulator be replaced when I change to OPD or can a propane dealer fix it.

Dan,

Normally propane white outgassing is liquid propane and is VERY DANGEROUS. You said it is coming out of the top?? does your regulator have a knob on the top to choose tanks?? or a window to tell you if it has switched for you? It could be someting as simple as an overfilled tank that has not been vented at the 80% fill. Or a bad regulator. There should not be any liquid in your propane system, let alone a white liquid. My reccomendation is to let a pro check it out. it may cost you a few $$ but you will know that it is safe.

Leaky LP tank

Dan,
Call some gas refill places and see what they say, but call a few to be sure your being given the right information.
My $0.02 cents worth less tax is you may have water in your tank and its foaming and or bubbling when it spews out giving it a white look, I think water is heavier than the LP but cant remember for sure.

BretG & John,
Thanks for the advice. I will do as you said and have a pro check it out. I am afraid of gas and don't want to go sailing up in the sky from a gas explosion. It sure is nice being able to have some questions answered about the Airstream. Makes the decision to buy one much easier. We are not in a hurry to get on the road anyway. Have to check out breaks, and a few other things first. Plus rebuild some cabinets and furniture. Hope to get on the road by fall.
Thanks again,
Dan
