Propane Tanks - Locking Down

I store my 75 Airstream at a local storage facility. I am looking for a good way to lock down my propane tanks. Something other than the obvious chain through the handles and down around the frame.

Has anyone come up with a good idea? Feel free to email me directly.

I wouldn't have thought that theft would be a problem in a storage place. I mean, isn't the whole idea that they protect your stuff? Or maybe I just haven't dealt with them enough to know.

Of course, you could always remove them and keep them in another place...

I have a lock that I Got from LEWSTER. It was quite inexpensive .It will keep the honest people honest.Its a combo of a 1/2 insert nut and a lock mechanism that just spins and the nut does not turn and the lock covers the nut. Its a little hard to describe. I'm sure I'm not the only one that bought one from LEWSTER and maybe someone has a picture.

May depend upon your tank mounting. I've seen several folks who have tanks held in place via a large "wing nut" on a threaded rod - which nut pushes down on a racket that actually hold the tanks in place - simply drill a hole through the "wing nut" and the bracket that this nut presses down on top of, and insert a small padlock through the holes so that the "wing nut" can't be loosened ... at least not sithout some tools to cut off the lock or the threaded rod, or ... it's easy and quick and cheap, but only will discourage the casual pilferer.

Since it is only for storage, use a big chain and a hefty padlock. The bottom end of the tie-down rod between the tanks is only secured with a pin which is easily removed., kind of like locking the door and leaving the window open.

Exactly what I have done to protect my aluminum tanks. I use a padlock with a very long bail to go through the wing nut and a hole drilled in the strap below. I have to put the padlock upside down to clear the top of the tank cover. That makes for a bit of fumbling to get the key in the padlock, but I don't fill a tank more than a couple of times a year.

I just got a vinyl coated cable with a loop on each end and a padlock, then I ran one end of the cable thru the threaded rod at the bottom and the other end of the cable thru the tops of both bottles.
