Propane Tanks: 30# or 40#?

My rehab trailer came without propane tanks, but it does have the hold down bracket.

My problem is that I do not know what size tanks the support assembly was designed for.

Could someone please tell me the # capacity of your tank,
and
the distance from the tongue to the apex of the inverted U in your hold down bracket?

Also, the length and width of the base bracket that holds the weight of the tanks on the bottom?.

It would be easier if you would measure the upright threaded rod on your rig and then someone here can tell you what will fit that dimension.

If you have the holdown bracket that is a long metal rod with a couple big aluminum wing nuts on top, check it out down low, there should be 2-4 holes drilled in it, this to allow for different sized tanks, you remove the bolt from the back of the tank rack and move the rod up an down. I will try to get a picture tomorrow for you. Mine is set up for 30#ers at the moment. However I have a couple of 100#ers setting on the ground hooked up at the moment to keep it warm so I can work on the interior I think it will accept 20#-30# steel and 30# aluminum. I also have seen pictures of 40# but I don't know if they were using the stock bracket or not.

I have the 40 pound Worthington Aluminum tanks on my '64 Overlander that were purchased from Airstream Dreams. I am using the standard Airstream bracket from the 1970s. The only modification necessary was the addition of a 6" longer threaded rod (purchased from my local Ace Hardware store). The 40 pound Worthingtons replaced my 30 pound steel tanks that were in desperate need of replacement. I am VERY pleased with the added capacity of the 40 pound tanks as I rarely need to refill during an entire season of RVing. The tanks can be seen in the photo below:

BTW we have 20 LB'rs because proportionately the others seem too big for our little trailer. We go out for 20-25 days without a refill in the May-Oct months....almost all summer for us.

This picture will allow you to judge whether you can accommodate 40 lb tanks. These are Worthington aluminum tanks. I sent you a private message on the dimensions.

I replied to Navigator in a private message he sent but could not attach the picture so came back to the forum and attached it here since it seems referencing my photo library at this time would be futile. Here are the dimensions.

The overall height of the tanks are 32" from bottom of base ring to the top of the collar. The hold down bracket that grabs at the opening in the collar measures 28" at the thread from the bottom of the base to the bottom of the hold down. The top of the Tee handle is at 33". The picture can give you a visual reference.

If you check the AirstreamDreams website linked in my earlier post, the dimensions of all three sizes of Worthington Aluminum Tanks are there including diagrams and cost. Here they are again...

I was 0.06" short on the dimension of my 40 lb tanks. Probably metal fatigue after 32 years. Now that I know what they cost I better invest in a lockdown.
