Propane tank valve will not turn

Maybe I am missing something obvious as a newbie, but when I try to turn my propane tank OPD valves, they will not budge. I did make sure that they were not already turned to the on position. I have used a rag and tried a better grip to no avail. I am hesitant to use a wrench in fear of breaking the valve.
Any advice would be appreciated. Maybe I just need to remove them and take them to a propane dealer??

Thanks, Mike

Rightie, tightie. Lefty, loosey. The valve should close by turning it clockwise. The valve should open by turning it counter clockwise.
If it will no open. try closing it.
Perhaps the person that filled your tank, over tightened the valve. You might try taking back to them. If you can't get it to open or close properly, take to a propane dealer and have them check it out for sure.

If you take the supply hose off of the cylinder and there is no leakage of propane, then the tanks are turned off.

I would assume that they're just shut too tight.

I'd probably try using a pair of pliers with no more than moderate force before I took the tanks back to the propane dealer.

(I'm assuming that the tanks are new or near new)
