Propane Tank Cover

Alright, I just put new 40 lb propane tanks on the coach and am reminded on how much they don't go with the rest of the aluminum theme. Aluminum tanks were out of the question due to price.

My question is if anyone knows of a cover that is available for the tanks like the one I see on the Excella models. Does anyone have one they can no longer use that they want to part with? Know of one at a salvage yard?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cool Something to consider

If you just wanted to make the non-aluminum tanks match/look better, why not paint the white colour over with a silver paint?

I don't how much of this happens..But, from the gathering of A/S at the Service Center parking lot last summer, I saw a number of tank covers that had been damaged. I asked one owner what had happened to his tank cover (it was damaged on the lower front corner) and, the reply was, "From turning too sharp a curve"..

I do recall someone posting on here a report abt lost'in his tank while under way..I could see how the tank cover might have saved him from that..Also, it might've prevented the damage done to the unit..
ciao

I was just at the AS Service Center on Friday, and they had one in the lobby. I think it was priced at $147.

thanks for your thoughts

I must've had a brain freeze when I posted this question. I forgot all about the fact that I had thought of painting them when I picked them up. That is a strong possibility, especially in the short term.

$147.00 doesn't seem all that bad either. I could probably pull that off when I start the next round of mods.

Tank cover prices

Can any one point me to the 147 dollar cover?

I asked thew local Airstream dealer and they quoted me 450 dollars for a dual 30 tank cover.

If I can make a segment protector for under 150 then I am certain that I can make a tank cover for less.

But!..... I would gladly pay 147.00 for an Airstream OEM cover.

Thanks,
Smily

Smiley, the cover I saw was in the lobby of the AS Service Center in Jackson Center, Ohio. Give them a call. Maybe it was for 20 Lb tanks, I don't know. I just glanced at it briefly, maybe I got the price wrong.

I recently painted my tanks silver and they look great. I used a paint called Alumablast from the eastwood company (left over from a hot rod project). Wally World also sells a silver that looks pretty good. I think its called "warm silver" or something like that.

Good luck!

Airstream Factory direct

Called Airstream today. They will only sell factory direct if you are at the factory.

Factory direct price for 30 lb tank cover is $385.00

A little more in tune with the Dealers price of 450 dollars.

I am going to have to make mine myself. I estimate cost at less than 100 dollars.

Question Round tank cover

While at a Airstream dealer recently, I seen a Tank cover that was round or oval shaped on an older model. It was not like the ones you see on the Excellas of today.

It fit much more snug and seemed to adhere to the shape of the LP bottles.

Does anyone have this cover or a picture of one?

First..let me welcome you aboard`
The A/S service center, often spoken about on here, refers to: where the A/S factory is located in Jackson Center, Ohio.
I rather doubt that those covers are still there but..You can call to check or, better yet drop in there. (I think you'd have better luck spotting things on special, in person)
The posted date of sighting was: 11-24-2002

Smile Propane Tank Cover

Thanks for the information, the person that posted that stated that it was for a used one. I looked further into the price and will probably go with the suggestion of painting the tanks silver, I don't want to part with four hundred dollars. Thanks for the reply. We haven't yet picked up our 1973 yet, but we are very anxious to get in and get dirty with the beast, it needs some tender loving care.

try the airstream dealer in alabama . he is a parts supply for airstreams and has warehouses full of old and new airstream parts. not many airstream dealers will tell you about this operation as they to call sonny for parts. i saw some tank covers last time i was there, dont know what size they were. dont get excited when he ask for your number as he will look for the item and call you back. refuses to computerize his operation. ask andy about sonny .
