Propane smell around my dual tank cover

I’ve noted a propane odor around my dual tanks when both tanks are open. I’ve checked for tieghtness on tank hose and both are tieght. Could this be a regulator issue?

Is this apparent after having one of the tanks filled? I notice sometimes slight venting at the end of the valve when I have a tank filled and it sits in the sun. I just switch over to that tank to use it to draw it down faster. Sometimes the propane filler overfills it a little.

Vill-

I recently replaced the pigtails on our 2014 coach, the short LP hoses that go from the regulator/tank selector to the tanks. Like you, I had a slight leak/smell of propane, and the new hoses cured it. The originals were probably due for replacement anyhow.

I strongly recommend that you find a real gas company store in your area (one that sells parts, gas appliances, etc.) and purchase USA-made hoses from them. The cheapy China hoses available are just that - cheap. They don't seal nor hold up well. Also, make sure you use gas-rated pipe dope or tape on all the NPT threads....... One last item, make sure your LP quick connect for a remote LP connection is sealed up and the valve hasn't opened from vibration.

Hope this helps.

Spray it with water that has a little dish soap in it and look for bubbles.
I had a regulator leaking once, all around the body of it, where the two halves were crimped together. It doesn’t have to be a fitting...

What Jmynes said X2!

Plus spray down every connection you can find under and around the Airstream. I found a major leak at the refrigerator connection. I was noticing that my pressure indicator would leak down to empty overnight with the tanks off and with no propane use. So I pressurized the lines and sprayed soapy water on joints until I found the leak. I also found a leaks on two cheap propane hoses with soapy water. You may be surprised by the leaks you will discover.

We had the same problem on our 2004 so the last time we had it in for service items we added this issue to the punch list. New regulator and hoses! Problem solved.
Happy trails.

All of the above is good, but I would re-enforce ShinyPete's suggestion to find a "real" gas provider to make new pigtails if that is the problem - - it is Number One on my list, having just replaced mine.

I had the same problem. It was the Regulator leaking where the two parts were pressed together. The soap and water method mentioned above is how I found it.
