Propane leaking -- not leaking
Whilst inspecting the twin propane tanks on our 2004 Safari I detected an oder of propane. I determined that it was leaking from the spot indicated by the arrow in the photo. I could feel the gas leaking out. So I disconnected that tank and switched to the other. I also called AS and had them order two extra hoses. Then, a week or so later, I noticed the same kind of leak on the remaining hose. But when I went to check it again the next day (and daily for about a week since) the leak stopped! We haven't run out of propane at all. Is this intermittent leaking something normal? Or should I replace both hoses when I get the new ones? Right now there's no smell of propane, no feel of it leading out of the spot, and no shortage of gas for cooking, heating water, etc.
What do you think?
Thanks!

We've had the same problem. Go ahead and replace.
Those are, by the way, generic items. Available on Amazon and elsewhere.

If those are the original hoses then replace. I'm thinking of replacing our hoses and regulator as they are 9 years old. The hoses are not very flexible. Did you recently get the tanks filled?

Okay, I'll replace both hoses as soon as they come in, which should be within the week.

For future reference. Your local propane supplier can make new hoses.

I'd suggest using soapy water to detect a leak. It's much more sensitive method than using your nose or feeling for escaping gas.

When refilling tanks I have noticed that sometimes I don't get the connector threaded on just right and it leaks a bit when I turn on the gas ... usually audibly AND smells, of course. If that happens, turn off the tank, unscrew the connector and re-seat it...then turn the tank back on. Also check with soapy water. If you cannot get the leak stopped, the hoses should be replaced. Our rig is a 2006 and we have replaced our propane tank hoses once so far.

Propane leaking
I had the same leak on my new Bambi on both tanks. So the problem was not from old hose. I tried to tighten by hand with no luck, so out came the old channel locks and I got about a 1/8 turn. No more leaking. Even a little scoring of the hard plastic is better then buying new hose from Airstream.

When ours began to leak, I replaced them with hoses that have a stainless steel jacket over the rubber. We store our AS outside and mice like to chew rubber. The SS jacket protects the line from the varmint.
