New Owner of '77 Sovereign

My family recently purchased a 77 31' Sovereign. Overall it's in pretty good shape, however, I can't get the furnace to work. Of course, the only page missing from the manual is page(s) 9-3 & 9-4 and the one I need. If anyone has these, I would most certainly appreciate a copy.

Anyone have any troubleshooting tips? It's a Suburban 30. Everything (4 wire terminal) seems to be connected. I have noticed a red (or pink) wire with black stripe paired with a yellow wire in the furnace/oven cavity that is not connected to anything. Any ideas what these go to? I can't find anything on the wire diagrams.

I have ordered a Hunter thermostat (recommended in another thread) since the one installed complete fell apart while checking to make sure it was connected.

It can take a while for propane to get to the furnace. Can you light your water heater pilot?

On my 77, the furnace fails to ignite until all the air is purged from the gas lines. The water heater is the end of the line and takes the longest to light. Lighting a burner on the stove helps to get the gas flowing. It could take up to a half dozen or more tries before the furnace ignites. Once the gas is in the lines mine fires up normally.

PM your address to me and I will send a hard copy the pages from my 78 OM. I also have all the literature for every appliance that came with the Sovereign including a complete schematic for the Motorola Radio. It can take a while for the line to purge.
Welcome, and let me know if I can help.

1) Make sure propane tanks are full and propane lines are completely purged of air. To assist with purge, light all propane appliances; stove, water heater.

FYI - Propane regulator may need to be replaced. Propane pressure beyond regulator should be around 7 psi. Furnace won't ignite unless it is. Remember, the furnace requires far more propane per unit of time than other gas appliances.

2) If your furnace has an igniter, make sure batteries are fully charged and all cells test good. I found this out the hard way. Furnace wouldn't light because batteries were weak.

BTW - I replaced my Suburban furnace about 15 yrs ago. Mine has an igniter.

I had same prob. regulator was bad not enough pressure replaced, also propane tanks at 1/2 full reg. would show empty causing water heater prob. after replace reg prob. fixed. Check other threads as there is some thing about valve on tanks not letting propane flow.
