Something else to think about . . . . I hadn't given this possibility any thought. The thieves that got away with the 20 pound Worthington Aluminum tanks on my Argosy may have been capable of something like this. The sheriff's deputy who investigated thought that someone "Cooking Meth" may have stolen the tanks for use in their meth cooking operation. The theft happened in the side yard of my home.

Thanks for the information. I went to this website. They offer two sizes; 1/2 and 3/8.

I have the 40# tanks.

Does anyone know what size would fit my tanks?

Also, the dealers near me do not carry them in stock. You must special order and pay in advance and it takes between 7 to 14 days. Did anyone make a purchase? Can you say where?

Thanks again.

I found the same responses as you did. They all can order one but they know nothing about them to answer any questions. The only variation I can see to account for the 2 different sizes would be the threaded rod that the hold down screws onto. I mean to check mine but I think it's 1/2". I think I just may work on figuring out something for myself though. I don't think it will be too difficult to figure out.

I used a lug lock at the top of the threaded stem. It is at least a deterrent. Cost was under $7.00.

Like Steamy1, I think a innovative approach my be the best option for me. I am also just looking for a deterrent.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think deterrent is all we can expect. We all know that if a thief comes prepared he will not only take the propane tanks he will take the whole trailer and maybe your tow vehicle to tow it with. We can probably prevent the kid looking for a thrill or or a dare and maybe the junkie looking for a few bucks worth of scrap metal but not the pro's. I still think the best prevention is a cover so the casual lookers don't know if you have aluminum tanks or steel. Anything more you can do is a plus.

A small amount of Semtex with a remote detonater and a GPS tracking device stuck to the bottom of the tank...
The GPS is so that you can watch and make sure its just the perps.

That would solve the problem.
