New Holding Tanks

Im planning on having new black and grey water tanks made up and was wondering if putting the drains on the bottom of the tanks instead of the sides is a good/bad idea? Any thoughts?

Hello, I removed the leaking black tank from our '67 Safari '22. I fabricated a bracket to hold a black and gray tank. I bought the tanks from Vintage TS. The tanks are small, 8 gallons each, but we spend 99% of the time in full hook up campgrounds. Now that we are self contained, we can use the water on the road and non full hookup spots.

As to placing the drains on the bottom of the tank, is there enough room in the chassis to have the plumbing below the tanks? I'm not familiar with your frame, however, ours is approx 8" deep. This is what limited us to the small tanks.

I put our gray tank drains on the bottom for a couple of reasons. One, I think it drains the tanks more completely, although 1/8" of water left in the tanks won't cause any harm. Two, it let me run the drain lines under the belly pan and easily keep a slightly downward slope to the dump valve and sewer connection without having to modify any frame members. After 4 years of travelling, we have had zero issues with the drain lines under the belly pan. But, we don't winter camp either.
