After installing a few new gas shut off valves, a few feet of gas piping, as well as my new "water heater," my paranoia for creating a mushroom cloud out of my trailer got the best of me... so...

Yesterday I bought a "gas sniffer" from CampingWorld. $39 for a little hand held electronic device that detects gas leaks.

I sniffed all of my connections and found that there was a leak on my wall mounted gas lamp, and my Magic Chef oven, even when in the off position was full of gas. Not good. The gas lamp I fixed easily.

On the oven, when the knob says OFF, I'm guessing that should totally shut down the gas flow to the burner/pilot? Right? I see there is a Pilot Off setting. I didn't try it with the sniffer and the gas tanks on, but I am guessing OFF means OFF, just like NO meand NO?

Your expertise is greatly appreciated! Oh, I have no gas shut off valve to the oven. I could easily install one though.

Upon further inspection and daring on my part, I figured out that the Pilot Off switch cuts off the gas supply to the oven. I then attempted to light the pilot, which worked fine. Then the burners kicked in when I turned the heat selector knob up. GOOD NEWS! I have a working oven!

I am still going to install an inline shut off valve before the oven. Better safe than toasted... creamated.
