LP Connections - US vs Canada

Ok I am a bit confused, and want to ensure that once we take our 2007 Bambi down to the US (from Canada) that I will be able to fill the LP tanks there without issue.

In past years with our teardrop trailer, I had a 5lb tank. I could fill it in Canada, but in upstate NY the attendant told me my connection wasn't legal for the US.... or there was some different in the fitting so I couldn't fill it in the US!

Our Bambi has the fitting for what is called 'Type 1 Connection' at local BBQ/propane places. Is this the new standard that is hopefully used in both the US and Canada?

Any clearification on US vs Canada LP fittings greatly appreciated!
