LP Bottle Cover
Today we ordered segment protectors for our 2015 16 Sport at the dealer. We feel they are a necessity given the rock dings we are getting in that area.
I also wanted to get the aluminum LP Bottle Cover but it is $750 -- almost as much as both segment protectors. Anyone have an idea for a less expensive source? I have been watching ebay but used ones seem to be few and far between.
Thanks.

You can buy cheaper plastic and soft vinyl covers from most RV parts suppliers.

Of course. It came with a plastic cover but wanted to get the look of the larger Airstreams with the aluminum cover -- especially since we were a adding the segment stone protectors with which the larger units come standard.

Those aluminum ones are nice, but they aren't particularly complicated. Wonder if a fabricator couldn't do one up for fewer bucks. Probably have to show them one of the factory models, though.

Good idea, thanks. We have a good machine shop near here and I think there is a scematic drawing somewhere on the Web of the cover. I will look into it.

Here's another thought....
ditch the ugly steel tanks and buy the bigger Worthington aluminum tanks and have them polished.... you'll be dollars ahead and have tanks that look.good and last forever!

I used spray paint to paint the plastic cover. Matched aluminum shade. Blended in nicely with 2014 Bambi. Nice alternative until someone comes up with a less expensive cover alternative.

Hi remphoto
We have a 2012 27 FB. The wind blew the gate open and caught the tank cover and dented it, the trailer was brand new so I order a new one. Gloria thought I was crazy but I did it. We still have it and would like to see someone use it, so if you are interested in it let me know. I am sure we could work something out.

The weight change is huge!
I have the cover on mine just because its in perfect condition. I worry about the day when the plastic top cover cracks and dies.

I used one can of paint. May go back and do it again for better coverage due to rough surface of plastic cover. (Not sure how to do photos. Hope it comes thru)

Thanks for the pictures. It looks great. I came to find out, though, that the 2017 Sport comes with the stainless steel propane cover.

Patience is the key. I was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time to acquire both the protectors and the gas tank cover scratch and dent (minimal). This was after constantly looking and watching for what I needed. Inquiring when the opportunity arises. Don't ever be afraid of asking for a price and offering a reasonable offer, Good luck with your search. Don't forget to sign up for the automatic emails regarding the Airforums Classified Section.
